What should of been done instead? More of the same? Really? You want Voyager and Enterprise?
They don't have to make more Star Trek. I'm fairly sure it's not written in US law that Paramount must produce a certain quota of Star Trek per decade. They could try, say, coming up with a new franchise? What a brain wave! I should sell these ideas!
Trek has been run into the ground and buried. Let it staty that way for a few years. Give it a decade or so before trying to bring it back, much like the transition from TOS to the films.

That's certainly true of daytime soaps as well, but that doesn't keep the makers from producing them and someone (you know who you are) from watching them. :D

No, that would mean taking unnecessary risks and who likes to invest in something that might fail to attract a new audience. The reboots are a good sign that they are running out of ideas yet again and they have so much literature and all those film libraries that they can fall back on to try to do the whole thing yet again, this time with a touch of grit and darkness, to make it seem fresh and original. Sort of like cooking spoiled meat. You won't taste the difference if the seasoning is right. :D
I agree with the let it rest, one of the things that made TNG such a success, was people dying for new trek stories. when TNG came out, it had been 18 years since the last tv series, and even with movies, there had only been 4 of them (TMP1979, TWOK 1982, Search for Spock 1984 and Voyage Home 1986). we're saturated with trek, as much as i have loved it, and have hopes for the movie, i'd rather not see any new trek for a while, i want more STAR TREK not STAR DRECK, let it rest. give it a good 10-15 years.
If they finished the Trek franchise with two or three great movies, that would be pretty damn good IMO. Enterprise really let us down in the end despite showing signs of improvement. This movie is supposed to be a doorway to two more movies (so I've heard) so if they are received well, that would be enough for me so say goodbye to Trek. Let's face it, it needs a proper ending - not the stuttering and teetering we've had before from movies like Nemesis and series like Enterprise.
pshaw, i'd love to see more BSG... 2 months... just 2 months.
I pretty much got BSG out of my system. The mid-season or after-season breaks have been just too long for me to count down the days until the next episodes will air. I will watch them like everyone else of course, but my enthusiasm for the show has all but vanished.
I'm enjoying Fringe quite a bit more than I thought I would. I like where this show is going even if the science behind it doesn't add up. But I don't mind, it's still mostly about the characters and their stories, the intrigues and conspiracies.

I'm just the opposite, its made me way more enthusiastic about it, to see how it all ends. I just finished my 3rd BSG marathon in as many months. I agree the length of the breaks have been utterly ridiculous, but I just love the show so I can put up with it
the breaks have been utterly ridiculous
I can understand that they need time for post-production and that this show requires more CGI shots than your average series, but I wonder how much time was really necessary and how much delay was introduced for some other reason. The cast and crew must be very dedicated. This catch and release way of treating your audience can backfire. It's not unheard of that ratings can suffer because of that. Anyway, I'm curious to see what will come after BSG.

I feel pretty similar. BSG has entered the realm of "something I watched a while ago," now.

More BSG, probably.

Oh I agree the time may well have been necessary, and the writers strike undoubtedly played its part in the delay. On the other hand, the first half of season 4 ended on a great cliffhanger which would on its own have kept me waiting with baited breath for the resolution
With the breaks like those BSG has had to endure, everyone's enthusiasm has faded. It's been ages since the show aired and I'm really losing touch with it. Certainly some of it has been delayed due to the strike, but according to all reasonable estimates it should have been able to air to completion by now. Stringing the fanbase along is simply not the right way to keep viewers around, especially with a lineup as terrible as what Scifi has right now.
I've pretty much given up interest in BSG. Not just because of the insanely long breaks inbetween which must be some mastermind's idea of killing interest, but the show itself just isn't as interesting as it used to be. I didn't see all the last season for instance. Maybe I'll see it someday though. The first season was really cool though.
Now I pretty much only care about The Venture Brothers.
