Upgrades?

Well my headphones are dying but they have lasted me 3 years so I was wondering if anyone had some recommendations as to which way to go this time. Last time went with Sennheisers and they were great but I will take any recommendation.

  • AKG K272 HD or K601. Also in a bit higher price level, K701, Beyerdynamic DT-880, Sennheiser HD650 and Denon AH-D2000 are recommended... and this time you should also get a headphone amplifier, such as iBasso D2 Boa or Go-Vibe Petite DAC AMP... or at least this one (Head-fi's topic).

whoa those are some uber head phones but way out of my price range...Unless I wait another month then I may be able to afford them. But for now I'm looking for something in the 0-$100 range. IF you think its worth it to wait then I will. But for now getting those would not be an option.

Dying headphones aren't so bad as they are sturdy - but MP3 earphones are always crapping out on me! Six months is all I get out of them at most before one of the earpieces stops working.

Can anyone recommend a good budget set of headphones? Not for MP3 ofcourse, just general computer lark. I find my 10 quid ($20) headphones just don't cut it anymore.
  • Ok, if you can't afford even the K272, then probably Alessandro MS-1 (pretty much the same as Grado SR80) would be your choice.

Was just about to buy the Alessandros and the shopping cart came up as expired...Is this the actual site? And should I get the miniplug too?
  • It certainly is the actual site. Perhaps your problem is somehow related to Java... have you tried different browsers?

On a slightly related note, I keep being prompted by windows to install SP3. Good idea/bad idea?

I had a similar problem. In the end, I decided that it was because the wiring in the cheap ones is not very good (thin, breakable wire or something along those lines), so all the cord twising when they get put in and taken eventually takes its toll. After going through 2 pairs in 8 months, I finally gave in and bought a nicer pair (which also happened to have noise cancelling, but only because I couldn't find a pair in that price range without). They have nice, long rubber sleaves around the cords where they come out of the earpieces, meaning the cords don't get sharply bent all the time. I think they cost me around 8000 yen.
