Olympics: Made In China

StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
I don't know how many of you actually bother to watch the summer games, but the more days pass, the more stories about how the Chinese go about doing things come to light.

Not only were some of the fireworks during the opening ceremony night prerecordings edited into some of the shots to appear on TV better than on location (you know because of the ever present smog). But now it turns out that the young girl shown singing the song was just lip syncing due to the fact that the real girl who really sang the song was fat and had crooked teeth.

I mean, what's the point of preaching fair play and being hard on doping on the surface when the organizers don't hold themselves to those standards?

I have no illusion, it's mostly about the money, but still.

Yeah, by letting that story about the girl come to light they're not really doing themselves any favours are they?

Besides the rather obvious CGI scenes and lipsync, the opening show was absolutely an amazing event. Reminded me about Hero at a certain point and no wonder, because the show was designed and directed by the great Zhang Yimou himself.

And yes, I, for one, bother to watch the summer games.
  • I have no problem whatsoever about CGI and playback, as it was done correctly.

The Olympic ceremony is a huge event, I'm glad China did everything to make it look spectacular.

And the girl, she was real, wasnt she? And there were actual fireworks outside? No one photoshopped the reality, they just made it look better. Like we all do in our daily lives.

Did you notice the piano was fake too? The little girl sitting next to the "pianist" pressed a few keys and nothing was heard. She sat on her hands looking like she knew her parents were going to get executed for the rest of that sequence :D

Apparently with the CGI fireworks, they actually added haze to make it blend in better with the live footage seen around it. At least the fireworks actually existed, but it seems odd to have so little faith in your own fireworks that you don't want to put a helicopter anywhere close enough to film them with a huge zoom lens...

That is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time.

You know, all those athletes who get caught doping, all just wanted to look their best during their personal fifteen minutes of fame. I do see a pattern there. :D

We now finally know what the Melissa and Bill Gates Foundation's mission is. It's to apologize to the world. :D

I'm just waiting for the Marathon everything else doesn't really interest me.

The marathon is, I suspect, going to feature a lot of people collapsing as their lungs get clogged with pollution.

One cyclist complained the other day after the race that he felt like he'd smoked 3 packs of cigarettes. Maybe they should have done those races somewhere else and edited the Great Wall into the footage in post production later on. I mean, if it looks good is all that matters after all why stop with the opening ceremonies? :D

Also the olympic medals are made in China: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/andy-borowitz/chinas-gold-medals-found_b_118664.html
The Olympic medals are designed especially for each individual Olympic Games by the host city's organizing committee. Each medal must be at least three millimeters thick and 60 millimeters in diameter. Also, the gold and silver Olympic medals must be made out of 92.5 percent silver, with the gold medal covered in six grams of gold.
It's getting better yet. Apparently the children dressed in their traditional garments during the opening ceremony representing the ethnic minorities in China were all "played" by children belonging to the Chinese ethnic majority.

Next they are going to tell us, the Olympic doves of freedom were actually crows airbrushed with white lead paint. :D
