I've decided to give STO a shot. Everything I've researched seems to indicate the developers are trying to make the game better, but I feel six months is a fair amount of time to give it a shot.
I also ran across their Recruitment program, reading about how it gives those who recruit others some unclear benefits. does anybody want to throw me a referral and get some swag for it?
Next question: Is the digital deluxe version worth an additional $13? I'd like the DS9 uniforms, but I don't necessarily need to pay more for some now. Plus, it looks like I could buy them later for $3. Does the Automated Defense Battery benefit me in any way that I couldn't make up for later with some grinding? It seems like there's a phaser satellite available that might replicate this option, but be more powerful and available at higher levels with some cost.
Discovery! It looks like I can stack product keys at a later date to get them if I find them cheaper than a monthly subscription fee :p Sweet! Also, a good way to get bonus items at a discount if they do ever go on sale *and* pay for a month at less than retail. I think that's my plan. :)
I don't disagree that it looks like that was and is the case, but that it won't be in time. But then again, I'm not certain. EVE is still of the greatest appeal to me, but i cannot in any way devote the time I would need to make that particular game worthwhile.

Well, not at this immediate moment in time, but yes, I'm still playing. All my characters are high level at the moment now tho, but I'm sure I could make another
I've got myself up to Engineering LC3 right now and have armed the Constitution Class USS Spiffy Shippy with a wide array of mostly decent weapons. So far, I seem to be pretty seriously able to tackle most missions on advanced or elite, and seem to dominate PVP rounds. I'm willing to blame this on experience in the beta and finally having researched what the hell everything actually means.
My biggest complaint about this game is the complete lack of any reasonable source of information regarding weapon types, classes, and attributes, as well as how these play into their usage types. I can forgive repeat missions, I can look beyond poor character AI, but I cannot let an absence of adequate documentation slip by! For the longest time, I had no idea why I felt disruptors did more damage than phasers in the same fight, or how a quantum torpedo was different than a photon torpedo. Was it better, was it worse? Turns out, it's just...different. I still haven't fully figured out how critical components figure into regular gameplay, or why only phaser weapons seem to disintegrate held/weakened targets.
Still, I'm enjoying it. The game has come a long way since the beta, and it seems to be far better for it. The STO Wiki has been my savior. The downside: It's pretty lonely out here. For an MMO, i'm basically playing solo with only the occasional multiplayer round. Is anybody else actually active or have a fleet I could join?
I'm in Darkblade's fleet but I'd rather we had a Firstones group.
We've got a Firstones chat channel too, Shadowdancer and I both use that, I assume there are a few others.

Worf and I had a quick team-up the other night, which was a lot of fun

No I've just gone for the recurring subscription, as the lifetime is just too expensive

We need to arrange a time for us all to meet up in-game. I'm working a week of normal shifts next week, so I'll be free from about 6pm GMT each evening. I'm also off next weekend, so that would work for me too.
They have changed Earth Space Dock, now it looks like it did in Star Trek 3-6. A big improvement, plus little details like the docking bay doors open and close when ships are nearby.
The interior has had some nice changes to, like this :D
So I got myself a Cheyenne and a runabout to play with. Fun times were had. The USS Voldemort's Nipple has entered my fleet!
I've also managed to pick up the fine art of multi-beam broadsiding and learned how exactly the game's bonuses work. It's tragic that there is zero helpful in-game documentation about what skills actually do to specific actions.

Yeah I've no idea...I just go for the brute force approach! :p
