CoH did add a lot of stuff. Honestly I didn't try half of it, lol. I enjoyed CoH for what it was, it didn't need to be an MMO, it was fun just to play it.
Thanks for the positive responses to my review. Im generally very hard on my writing, it might have something to do with the English teacher I married.
Croxis, server load difficulty aside, one of the reasons I liked WoW and thought it was amazing is because of how seamless it is. Sure there are loading screens when you switch from Old Azeroth to Northrend or from either to the Outlands and a loading screen when you portal or hearthstone. But the fact is you rarely see loading screens in a game that spectacularly huge and detailed in its terrain. That has become the benchmark (at least in my mind). I just wonder if there was a faster way to load the new sectors without a loading screen every time.
As far as 3D flight goes, I have classically not been a fan of 2D space adventures. All of the games I enjoyed that are set in space are 3D. Be it the old X-wing games, Wing Commander games, Wing Commander Privateer, Jumpgate, and Eve. In each and every game there was something out there to give you a way to go back or stay on plane with everything else. Really wasn't that hard.
PvP is still mostly mission based as I understand it. I have done a few pvp misisons. Klingon leveling is almost all PvP. That said, I have less and less interest in pvping as I get older. Point of fact though, the easiest way to level currently in beta is the repeatable "secure Sol System" mission. Fly into one of the enemy encounters in sol and kill 8 waves of Klingon ships 3 times (5 minute respawn time between each group of waves), and bam every 20 minutes you complete a mission for good xp and do very little. Its actually broken atm, you can just be in the encounter and not ever fire your weapon and as long as the other 20 people do (because its a full instance encounter) you complete it. This is planned to be something like a daily quest upon release.
Post your ingame usernames here please. I would like to form a fleet in open beta and play around with fleet resources and such. I already have a bunch of people from the AQM forums and we use teamspeak for voice coms during the game. Would be thrilled for you guys to be apart of it as well.
Since characters are being wiped for the open beta, not much point posting their names until then :)
Already planning on a fleet, I'll post the details once it's created tomorrow :)

Well my name in closed beta was vorrash@alkesh (stargate fanboy i know :p), so it'll probably be that once open beta gets going
As for 3D, yes it would be much better if it were done properly ala X-wing, but to be honest I think it would introduce too much complexity for most fans. Given the range of planes that exist in the space instances I agree some degree of 3D would seem appropriate, but again it comes down to how complex you want to make it.
I've not tried pvp yet, its on my list of things to try once I'm done with that damned Miranda kitbash starter ship! Myabe we can get a Purple vs g-r-e-e-n FO pvp match going, if g-r-e-e-n feels the need to get its ass handed to it :D
You have to remember not everyone is you :P The ability for spatial reasoning is correlated to testosterone levels. Men and athletic women perform better with spatial tasks than other women.
Even then I was explaining to one of my male classmates how to get to a pizza place were are going to meet at later in the week. He asked what side of the street it was on. I said on the south side. That was too difficult for him and wanted to know if it was on the left or the right side of the road.
I didn't watch Voyager, but were there only 2 babies born on the whole ship in 7 years? I figure one of 3 things went on there. Either Starfleet has the best prophylactics in the Universe, The Doctor was pro-choice or no one was having sex on that ship. Since she who shall not be named was all up in everyone's business all the time, I'm gonna go with C.
Voyager had a holodeck. nuff said? :p
Anyway, thanks for the review. I think Im gonna start playing the game anyway, but is nice to know what Im getting myself into.

God I hate that. I always confuse the crap out of people when I use directions. Like somebody at work was asking us over the walkies where the nearest bus station is. I said the eastbound was on the south side of the street to the left of work, and the westbound was across the street. Very timid response to that.
I love the blank stares I get from people when I tell them in person. They don't want to seem like an idiot and say "which way is north?" yet they try and play it off. Really hilarious.

Really? I'm quite pleased with it actually. Sure its not perfect, but I mean, its not even out of beta yet, and there's time for a lot more content to be streamlined and added
I've seen some extensive gameplay clips of STO on GiantBomb's website and after watching three hours worth of footage I can safely say, the game sure looks great, but I'm still a bit unsure how long people are going to enjoy the gameplay. I understand that this is still a beta at this point and that a lot of content will have to be added.
I also received a special "life-time" offer of $240 in my inbox today. I'm not sure who is going to invest that much money upfront for a game that hasn't even been released yet and which is not guaranteed to be still around in a year or two from now. How long is forever in the MMO industry? :D
The game looks nice enough but I don't see myself sticking around for more than a few months and then move on, if I'll pick it up at all.
"My daughter on the other hand LOVES it... she's been playing it non stop, of course, she's 12"
I think that speaks to what the game is and I don't mean that in a derogatory way. I casually followed the game development so I knew that this was not going to be a sandbox game - i didn't overhype it ;) It is a matter where the fun is derived from. In Eve or something like X3 the fun is derived from the depth and complexity. STO my fun is being derived from the opposite, its simplicity, lack of harsh penalties, and blowing up those dirty Klingons.
Well, Im just about lvl 13 now. Got an Escort and a Science ship. Love the Escort, its a lot of fun. Just picked up the Science ship, great shields, but haven't got much time in it yet.
Croxis is right, its simplicity. That's not a bad thing, but it might not bode well for replayability. Im still having fun, thats all that really matters. Outside of having a few of you guys friend me though I haven't seen any of you in game. Still looking to make a fleet, I got 3 other friends in right now to add to one.

Yeah we need to arrange a time when we can all get ingame and meet.
I just got my Connie....what a difference to the starter ship! From what I've seen, I think it will become more complex at higher levels as you get more abilities. Low levels seem to be all about getting you comfortable with the basics of the game, so I'm hopeful about what comes later.
Im not looking forward to having to start again in 2 weeks time tho. On the other hand it'll be easier to level up faster when it goes live as we'll be comfortable with the whole thing
The cruiser does feel like a real starship. Might see if I can get an escort too as I'm curious how those handle.
Agreed on not looking forward to restarting...again. I've avoided the story missions for that purpose. I know they need testing but I'm sure other people are working on that.
I did try and create a fleet but it said 5 people were required on a team, so yes we need to get everyone on at once.

Either Im a changleling or there are some interesting bugs tonight, beamed down to a planet and I was my ship.
And I had that same problem too :)
And created a Firstones chat channel
But I don't want to do anymore during beta and then have to replay them in two weeks.
