My friends 1st Book is on Amazon
Falcon1
Elite Ranger
in Zocalo v2.0
My friend who went to 2nd level school with me has finally succeeded in getting his 1st book published and listed on Amazon.com. Its taken him about 3 years which included being scammed by a so called 'publisher' in New York. But its finally here. And the exciting thing for me is I designed the cover :)
I don't consider myself an artist at all and to be honest the last sketch work I'd done properly was probably in school. But I had a crack at it and came up with a design which was in the end a compromise on my original idea. I looked at lots of different Dragon sketches and illustrations and also looked at melding some celtic/neolithic swirls. Originally I drew a 3 point swirl which is commonly found on ancient rock carvings (similar to those found at Newgrange in Ireland). I replaced the top swirl with the head of the dragon but this didn't work so well. So I removed 2 leaving just one, which is more or less the tail. Next my friend asked for a fire effect in the background. I'm not 100% happy with this and in the end it was a bit rushed due to a sudden deadline shift from the publishers. But I think it came out ok (well no where near as cool as Alan Lee's work ;)). It will be interesting to see how it looks in print.
Anyway here's the link to the listing on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Order-Dragon-Question-Pauric-Brennan/dp/1425133118/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1214741142&sr=1-5
Its pretty cool and also a bit weird to see my name credited on Amazon. Will be interesting to see if I get the covers for the rest of the series as well ;)
Oh and the title of the book is "Order of the Dragon: Question of Time"
