Is it an MMO? Is it a TV Show?

It's both!

It's what they had planned to do with Galactica but I think they're right it needs to be a new universe for the concept to work properly.

• RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
I don't think that's gonna work as advertised.
a) you need a few weeks production for a tv-episode, not the few days that would be time
b) you need a bit of time for the design and testing of new content for an MMO
c) to be tied down by what players do in an online game could extremely hamper creativity on the show.

I only see this working as a game with tie-in events...

I'm not so sure rubbereagle, I think this has a lot of potential. Yea, each episode does need production time. But I didn't see in that article where the episodes were going to be filmed that quickly, they just said that the events in the game would effect the events in the series... could be talking about a month or more of a delayed reaction. Yes, it does require development and testing time for *NEW* content, Plus, creating "new content" for each episode would simply be impractical. However... hosting in game events on the other hand is a completely different animal and is something that is done quite regularly in MMOs. Not only that, but the chances for interesting and creative outcomes with hundreds if not thousands of players involved and actively contributing is far far higher, than it is with a dozen or so people hashing it out over across a conference room table. Just from my own experience in MMOs, players tend to come up with very unique and unorthidox solutions that the script writers of a story or an event may not have anticipated, just from the fact there's so many people looking at it from their own perspectives. So, in my humble opinion, there's actually the capacity for greater creativity with a system like this, than without. Yea, sure, there'll be limitations to it, but if it's done properly it could be very interesting indeed.

I for one am quite excited by the potential and look forward to seeing this kind of idea come to fruition. Especially since the MMO market today really feels stale to me.

I like the idea, but I dont know how practical this is going to be to implement. I am glad they decided not to do this with BSG tho.
• just wait for the first invincibility-1-shot-kill you hacks surface and the show takes an unexpected turn! :D

(or imagine what a server crash would mean.. "oh noes, the universe rebooted!")
• Players are to decide who is evil? What a Western Centric view point.

Will the game be free? How much power will I need? I can afford free but not a new computer.
