WORFWORF The Burninator
This video will certainly bring them back to anyone that played the X-Wing games.

I wish they would make a new Tie Fighter game...
  • They're definitely playing the Windows 95 version of X-Wing. The DOS CD-ROM version is so much better....

I agree, same applies to TIE Fighter as well. They probably couldn't figure out how to get it to work or capture video or something like that.

Those were pretty much the only Star Wars games I liked...I too wish they would bring them back.

Ah, Loom. Probably one of the top ten games ever..
  • Sniff... Sniff... I still mod XWA on the side, still got the mods I made for TIE CD and X-wing..... sniff.... I'm too damn old...

Tie Fighter was the first PC game I ever really played, and IMO it is still one of the best I've ever played. Certainly if you go by the amount of game time I spent on it, its only been eclipsed by City of Heroes.

I also wish they'd make another one, it could be truely awesome if they gave it a modern high spec treatment

Oh how many hours were spent on X-Wing. Remember playing it on my first PC, a 486-25, and you needed to use a boot disk due to something peculiar about the driver Lucasarts used.

Today, the game still looks pretty good but the flight system is dated. The flight controls consisted of pitch and a combination of roll and bank to the direction you pulled the stick.

I never actually finished TIE fighter. There was one mission I just could never get past. Some sort of escort thing, if I remember right, but the ships I was supposed to protect always died right at the beginning, something even before I was able to fly anywhere near them.

Escort/Protection missions were always a b*tch. I think it was like the 4th mission in on X-wing that you had to protect a medical ship. You'd have to fend off TIEs several klicks off the ships port side when some TIE Bombers would show up on quite a ways out on starboard. Rerouting all power to the engines was the only way you could come close to intercepting the bombers.

Aye that was the Redemption mission. As I recall it was also featured in the first X-Wing novel, Rogue Squadron

I was seriously hooked on Tie Fighter. Loved that game. Memories indeed...

Ahhh, XvT, used to play that at work, we had a T1, we kicked ass!

Dos CD-ROM version? Was that the one that came out way later with all the expansion packs? I spent way too much of my life playing the floppy version and I remember that being long before cd-roms were even made(or affordable) for a PC.
  • WORFWORF The Burninator
It is, the CD-ROM version also had voices for all cutscenes, briefings and missions.

haven't played those games in ages. Man do they look horrible. I remember thinking how cool they looked back then...
  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I hold the contrary opinion. I think they still look fairly decent. Nothing like Crysis, but pretty decent overall. Pixel-painted art is still the best.
