Blake's 7 to be Remade

WORFWORF The Burninator
I've not actually seen the original but I've heard good things. I guess Sky felt they wanted something to replace Galactica when it finishes.

I never saw it either, but it seems like it could be good if they do it correctly. According to Wikipedia, the original series was very dark and therefore is still "highly regarded". However, I could see them trying to take a campy, over-the-top route and it being bad. I dunno. I hope they show it on Sci-Fi here in the US so I can see for myself. :)

Well this is the century or remakes. Might as well go for Lost in Space the series too.

I've never seen Blakes 7 either but have heard more or less the same. As long as they do a good job and don't make it dumbed down to try and get a 'wider audience'. It will be interesting to see what they do. I am concerned though that Sky are involved. Most stuff thats 'made for Sky' is rather rubbish.

Lost in Space was almost rebooted, too. Falcon1, what do you think gave BSG the Pegasus sets?

The studio that made Hercules in Space? :D

No seriously, is that where those bits came from?

I watched Blake's 7 on both its runs in NZ (the original run, decades ago, and the more recent run). It is quite a dark story. Lots of destruction of important ships, death of main characters, intergalactic wars, main characters with questionable motives, some of the earliest anti-heros on TV, etc. It has a reasonably substantial overall arc, which was rare at the time. The only bad part is that its presentation hasn't aged that well: the costumes look ludicrous and some of the individual episodes are terrible. Most of the programme is great, though, so a reasonably faithful remake could be good. Or it could turn into a crap, generic "rebels vs big evil Terran Federation" thing.

Great Series, not really for kids though. I was 15 or 14 when watching the whole series to final, it was on PBS. The new generation of writers seem to lack any sort of creative orginality with these never ending remakes.

Well, hopefully the people who are going to write it are aware of BSG and it's impact as a series, complicated drama and model it after that rather than say Doctor Who which is mostly escapist fun with occasional seriousness.

    I've heard of Blake's 7, but I don't know anything about it.

I would assume (and hope) that they'll model it off the original Blake's 7, rather than two completely unrelated series.

That said, the modern version of BSG is actually a very similar tone to the original Blake's 7.

There's nothing wrong with remakes. I just wish they'd remake stuff that could benefit from being remade. Like Star Wars Episode I, and The Matrix 2 and 3. :D. I don't know what's up with remaking stuff now but it's not just TV and Movies. Just look at cars. Ever since the VW new beatle how many others have followed and reimagined old classics?

Actually it's sort of good that some old show's are being redone. How many shows do you remember and think what would have been if it had been treated right. If the remake is taken seriously and not butchered to be a ratings machine great things can be accomplished. Who would have thought the new BSG could have come out of TOS and not laughed?
