I don't trust anything about the second half start date until a press release or some other announcement (probably immediately after episode 10) is made.
Perhaps the fact that the first of the three movies is almost certainly a go, and than an additional two hours are being added to the back half of season 4 will brighten your spirits.
Also, having watched "Revelations" twice now (thank you, Sci-Fi Channel online preview! And thank you to the good people at Intel and the poor, unfortunate people behind "The Happening" for paying for it), I can only say... wuh-wow.
Oh man, just saw the start and this is obviously going to be one nasty cliffhanger. The thought that the resolution is over 6 months away is really starting to sink in.
So the soundtrack, that's going to be released in the next thirty seconds, right? Right?!
VIMH: Spoiler: Nuclear wastelands are the wave of the future!
Seems somewhat interesting. While it would have been interesting to reach earth and find people living there, I don't think they could have resolved things in a way that generally appealed to viewers of multiple nationalities and interests without a great deal of trouble and disagreement over "how things were pulled off" and such. Making things a wasteland solves that and keeps the focus on the relatively miniscule Galactica cast.
Also, fucking awesome acting. EJO's best performance to date.
Things seemed a bit rushed in this episode, but oh well, they all worked out just fine. I felt that most of D'anna's actions were somewhat forced and didn't seem to match well with her set of goals. It also seemed like the "This can't end well" lack of sharing was simply brushed aside to advance the plot, and Biers' plan quietly pushed forward in place of it.
I was impatiently attacking SataiCallista waiting for the breaks to end.
Spoiler: I guessed the nuclear wasteland months ago when I caught a photo online of some of the cast filming on a planet surrounded by ruins. I didn't see any other way for them to go with this honestly. If there still had been a functioning civilization, how could they have possibly taken the sudden arrival of nearly 40,000 people from space wanting a home?
Besides, this way adds to the drama because the colonists are now all having depressing flashbacks. Their homes were destroyed by nukes and now their new home is too.
I'm quite satisfied the way this ended. The way this episode was shaping up it looked like it was going to end up in one of those unbearable shit just hitting the fan cliffhangers. I can now survive the next six months in peace knowing there was some resolution for a change. I think they know at this point anyone watching is comming back anyway without having to keep people on the virge of insanity to know the resolution. Spoiler: I always imagined the show would end with the fleet jumping into earth orbit. I had a feeling they'd surprise us by either moving up the event or giving up number 5 earlier. Looks like the show is now going to be more about the final reconciliation of the entire cylon race as opposed to just reaching earth. I'm sure the remainder of the cylons are going to show up soon and they have the entire fleet on their side so it's far from over.
Spoiler: Watching the clock roll by as it closed in on 11:00pm I was expecting Cavill and co. to jump into orbit in a standoff and the to be continued... come up. I'm really glad they didn't ruin the moment and just let it be.
Spoiler: It's interesting how satisfying an end for the series that point could have actually been. It makes me glad to see that if the strike had killed the show, at least we could have been content with going out in a very nice Bang and leaving the rest to our imaginations. Of course, I like the way it's going right now to be better. :P
I loved the way it went from unbridled celebration all over the fleet to utter disappointment. This is certainly a series of extremes. If that was the last episode, I would have been satisfied. However, I really do want to know who the final Cylon is. Clearly, he or she is no longer with the fleet so all of the predictions of dead characters are now at the forefront (I'm still thinking it's Kendra Shaw). Furthermore, what will the Cavill & co. do?
Also, has anyone else noticed that the "regular" Cylon models are numbered 1 to 6, skip 7, and go straight to number 8? What does this mean for the final 5, if anything? Or was it just an oversight?
Spoiler: Um...I'm not sure what to say, they found Earth much quicker than I expected, I was thinking episode 15 at least.
In retrospect, I think they knew cancellation was a possibility with the strike so they wrote the episode with that in mind and they could have cut the final scene of landing on Earth and ended with the fleet arriving in orbit.
Sanfam, I agree...must have music now...it's going to be a looong time before we get anything though, it was a good 6 months after season 3 ended before we got the soundtrack for that :(
Interesting observation, D'anna said there were four Cylons in the fleet, which implies the fifth is one of the people aboard the Basestar at the beginning of the episode. Possible suspects are Adama, Roslin, Baltar or Helo...the other characters are too minor to be considered, it wouldn't be at all dramatic once the identity is revealed.
Indeed great acting from EJO. When he was on the floor and Lee was trying to get him up he was dribbling on Lee's hand :D
So they have come full circle alright, finding what they left behind. Interesting that the signal they picked up with the Viper was a colonial distress call. A left over from the nuclear war on Earth perhaps. So did the 13th tribe fracture and descend into civil war?
I wonder if they will find the ruins of the opera house on the planet?
I liked the change of style Bear used for last few minutes. Very un-BSG but it worked great.
Spoiler: I just watched the episode again, and I'm wondering if they maybe, just maybe, didn't actually find Earth. Why? I could be wrong, but none of the shots of the planet are very clear. I couldn't make out any of the continents and the architecture on the ground didn't even resemble anything we know of today. In fact, the styling looked more like Kobal or the 12 Colonies. I guess this could be hundreds or thousands of years into the future, but still. And when they showed Earth at the end of Season 3, you could easily see the continents. Oh well, we'll find out if I'm wrong in a few months or so.
Spoiler: After rewatching the episode, I think we can rule out Adama as the final Cylon, since D'anna's goal was to get them all together on the base ship, she wouldn't have taken him back to Galactica if he was one of them.
Spoiler: I don't doubt that this is earth. visually, it's nearly a match for the shore of Brooklyn along the East River. Second, it's directly mentioned by the chorus per McCreary himself.
Spoiler: On the other hand, he also said the chorus is directly quoting Adama, so that doesn't really mean anything. Still, at this point, I don't think we can take anything for granted.
ShadowDancerWhen I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie."London, UK
Spoiler: I'm gonna go with the "there's something screwy going on here" vote, just because tbh I cant see how they're gonna make 10 more eps out of resolving the differences between humans and cylons.
Could the 5th model be waiting there for them? Perhaps Earth's inhabitants have gone post-physical, maybe becoming the gods of old? Yes I'm wildly speculating now :D
Well, resolution isn't just in the Human/Cylon relationship, but in the relationship of their gods and/or the entities that are clearly motivating every single event.
You know, all this has happened before, all this will happen again. We've usually assumed this means something cyclical which keeps happening again. I think it just means humanity got nuked for whatever reason and had to leave earth. They end up in the colonies and have to do the same for the same reason.

Six months is nothing.
Spoiler: Yeah, and I think we've got to pay up to whoever had "devastated wasteland" in the Earth Pool.

Of course, considering cast reaction to the finale's script is gushingly positive, I'm guessing that there'd be a lot of not-resolution, too.
Spoiler: Also, I think I've heard who's going to be in that funeral pyre.
Overall a great episode, even though everything seemed rushed.
They could indeed end it right there, I guess this will make the wait that much easier until next year.
