Problems with IE.

MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
So.. Ive recently (these past two days) started having trouble with internet explorer. Mainly that new windows take a lot of time loading. Anyone else have the same problem, or a solution even?

(And yes, Ive tried installing firefox, but apparently, firefox and win2000 dont mix..)

I agree. Don't use it man, just don't. It's not your fault, it's just the way it is. :D

Well, until now, Ive never had any problems with it, Ive had loads with other browsers at school. Considering this is my first problem, you can say Im pretty pleased with it. :)

Since you don't seem to like Firefox, have you tried Opera? Konqueror will also be available on Windows in non-pre-release form soon.

Firefox doesn't work on Win2k? Since when? I've used it for years on Win2k. Might I recommend you try Firefox 3 beta? It's relatively stable and requires a significantly smaller memory footprint than Firefox 2: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html - I'm guessing your issues with Firefox have been memory related since it does tend to suck that up if you have too little. I find Firefox 2 generally takes 500-1000MBs of memory by itself, thus needing 1.5GBs on a system. Firefox 3 takes only about 250MBs for itself, meaning you can usually get away with 750MBs memory.

IE is a security hole waiting to happen. Using it is at your own risk.

As a web developer, IE is the most annoying browser out there. Not only does it not adhere to standards, but it randomly does it's own things that make no sense. One time you load a page, something might appear in one location. The next, it moves to another location. Further, there is no consistency between versions as to how they misinterpret standards. What you code for IE6 will not work right in IE7 which will not work right in IE8.

It's probably worth noting that RC is a rather extreme case. He never closes tabs or windows, so he tends to have dozens of windows with dozens of tabs open at a time. :p

Using the IE 8 beta 1 in Vista, works pretty good, quite stable.

That doesn't sound very convincing. Besides, it's not the stability I'm worried about, Firefox crashes too sometimes.

I run Firefox 2 mac & windows, Firefox 3 beta 2/3/4, Safari (3.1, mac), Safari (3.0, windows & mac), IE 6, IE 7, IE 8 beta 1, and Camino at work (all on the same computer) for testing.

Of those, Firefox 3 is the most stable and standards compliant. However, Firefox 2 is what I mainly use since it has better developer tools on it.

The worst browser of all of those is IE 6. After that, the latest stable Safari version and IE 7 are about tied.

Camino isn't exactly a major browser and is based on Firefox code, so there is little difference there.

Both IE8 and Safari (3.1) have strong potential to be very good browsers, but I haven't used either enough.

All Safari browsers are good at standards, but from experience their rendering engine has issues.
  • Eww, Win2k.

Well, I just bought a Hp pavillion tx2020oe, so no worries with win 2000. :D

win2k was awesome, switched to XP because of file size limit and driver issues and stuff.
