SG Atlantis Season 4 Finale
Falcon1
Elite Ranger
in Zocalo v2.0
So season 4 wrapped up the other week. What did people think?
Overall I liked it. Was a good way to go down story-lines/events
that they normal wouldn't get to do. Seeing the team all die after Shepards disappearance was a good way of doing it.
A couple of things did bug me though. Yet again the writers have gone and taken an idea from SG1, i.e. the solar flare incident. Not original. But still Shepard all alone with holo-Rodney was amusing.
Even though I liked the episode as a whole, I felt the cliffhanger was a bit weak. Plus the cgi of the warehouse collapsing was almost laughable in my opinion. It was so fake it was unreal. Bit of a let down given the usual high quality of the effects.
So with the season ending with Michael on the rampage I think its safe to predict that Robo-Weir will show up at some point in season 5 with a new fleet and start kicking hybrid-freak ass. But there's bound to be a twist ;)
And just a quick mention on Dr Beckett's reappearance. In a way I was kinda hoping he had ascended so found the fact he was just another Michael clone a bit of a let down. But I suppose given the story-line with Michael it did fit. So will they thaw him out and then find a cure for the Hawfen drug?

OMG SPOILER
Spoiler: I thought it was a bit of a let down. Since the future never actually happened and obviously wasn't going to, the time spent introducing it seemed to be a complete waste, giving us a cliched "everyone truly is important" epic heroic storyline that was implied well enough. It was one of those twists completely inline with every other we have seen in the rest of the season. The collapse was just as dumb. Watch as we find out the crew were either beamed out at the last second, managed to fall to safety, or were actually Magical Michael Clones with secret tracking devices! Most likely it'll be a "They're barely alive and need rescue!" thing carefully orchestrated by Michael as part of a greater plan, because he read the script and knew where they were going to be.
And why is it that the recurring characters are some of the only ones allowed to be intelligent?
Holo-McKay was fantastic. He just felt right and really made any scene in the finale involving him enjoyable.
And speaking of twists, it seems as if they've completely exhausted every single one. I can't think of any left to abuse, so perhaps S5 is going to be not so bad? The Kindred Pt 1 existed exclusively to set up the last twelve seconds and otherwise added nothing to the show that couldn't have been better handled in a single episode. Part 2 only managed to continue the twisting. I love Beckett, and I adored his character, but he's dead and should have been allowed to stay that way. I was glad the topic of his death was exceptionally well handled, but not the "magical Michael clone" part. I miss him being a regular, but I loathe the fact that his death now been used for seemingly random and pointless twists three times and that they can just keep on bringing him back as many times as they want in the future.
Don't worry, they'll probably re-introduce the replicators as a villainous force again, so we'll likely see them back. And with them...RoboWeir and her Magical Michael Cure that makes Carson into a fellow RoboDoc irregular recurring character!
Anyway, probably not tuning in for the next season. This last one was enjoyable at times, but painful and unnecessarily twisty far...far too often. It's clear the writers aren't going to ever truly resolve anything, so I see no point in jumping on the Never Ending Story: Pegasus Spectacular.
Sanfam: what was the point of the spoiler tags if you're just going to quote it all? :p
As I said elsewhere (in relation to SG-1, in fact), this is why they continue to produce crap. If people are going to watch it anyway, why go to the effort to make good scifi? :p

Any other good stuff out there to watch?

ShadowDancer: The Terminator series was pretty good.

There is also Josh Whedon's new series 'Dollhouse' with Eliza Dusku in the lead role. Will have to look at that too :) Should be better than that rather poor 'True Calling'.
And back to Saturday, yup I have a bottle of Old Peculiar in the press and I think I shall kick back with that and watch the season opener :) I've watched the trailer on SciFi.com and they sure don't give anything away. I do like the way they did it though, going through all the cast, was quite stylish.
