There is a difference between value and price. I don't mind paying more if I actually get more. I should of done that when I was in drum corps with sneekers - I would wear the heal down to nothing in 2 months.

Part of the problem is that consumers don't educate themselves on what makes value and just resorts to expensive is better and spending $15 on a two foot CAT5 at Best Buy. Or buying hte biggest mega pixel camera possible when, at this point, it is really about quality of optics and the ccd chip.
• Being poor is not buying new close for 20ish years, except shoes. I walk funny.
Cooking food and not really caring what it taste like.
Walking to stores. Well, I can't drive anyway. A car is a major drain. If it isn't needed don't get one.
Get a job driving and do as many errands with the company car as reasonable.
Restaurant jobs are good for free food. Make sure it is a healthy food type one.

Make a budget and find out were your money is going.

Lots of people give away clothes. I haven't bought clothing in over 20 years and have more then I need.
PnP games will keep people out of bars and other money pits.

We were discussing price versus value on firstones IRC, I mentioned to Sanfam that I had a 45 dollar T-shirt (well it would cost 62 now) and sanfam went bug fuck psycho on that, claim it was a crazy waste and all. Biggles knew I was setting sanfam up though and didn't take the bait, and thus it was only sanfam who was arguing that since it was a fire retardant undershirt made out of nomex it didn't count as a "t-shirt" :D didn't even get into the 80 dollar long johns ;)

As for that thread on rage 3d, and people talking about being real men, and their shoes. I so wanted to bitch slap those fuckers, or turn the crew at Lightfighter loose on em if I had such magical powers. Those guys wouldn't blow 1000 bucks on 3 pairs of air Jordens, because they already dumped their money on Tac gear by various outfits, LWRC or LMT carbines with Aimpoints or Eotechs and extra classes with Pat Rogers, to be able to kill people better O_o.

I mean shoe threads on those forums about 300 dollar boots boil down to how do they realistically hold up when doing a forced march 20 miles in a day then chasing somebody across broken ground so you can put a bullet into them. if you wanna talk shoes and keep your man card its gotta be in context!

You really should get out more.

*looks at Tyvar's shirt*

no no, I take it back, stay in!

I spent $300 on a pair of Alden 405s the famous Indy boot. Does that count as irrational exuberance?

Dude sometimes you have to have fire retardant underwear! you know if your taking a road trip with somebody like Sanfam! or worse Shadowboxer! ;) rember cars + insane modifications equal fiery death boxes! ;)

I'm probably going to get more of the T shirts, they are quite robust and I like sweat wicking t shirts, but they are expensive to begin with, and the thought of underarmor t-shirts that melt to skin give me the damn willies you know? to many near mishaps in chem lab that could have gone wrong leave me wary of having most synthetic fibers that close to the skin. in outer layers its bad enough at times.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Underwear/Undershirts != T-Shirt! :P I'll stand by it forever! Forever!

I'm still trying to figure out what kind of job Tyvar does... that requires fire retardant underwear. :D

So far I have: driving really fast in circles in a fire-f*ck-ball wearing a lab coat and holding test tubes. Am I close?
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Actually, that's a question I've always pondered. Tyvar, what exactly is your job, anyway? If I find out, will you have to kill me?
• TyvarTyvar Next best thing to a St. Bernard
I buried my parents in the back 40 and collect their social security checks?

*me looks at his cell phone history where his mom called him 4 times today to leave messages* Ah, I wish, being an only child is such a chore :P

And yes if I told you Id have to kill you, or else risk you turning states evidence! ;)

If I tell you I have a boring ordinary job doing data entry you guys will be bored and drop this right?

Stingray: my job doesn't require me to wear fire retardant clothing thank god, Its just when your doing a long hike carrying gear, a sweat wicking t-shirt (ie something that works better then cotton, is damn nice, however a combination of previous experiences that Ive witnessed has kinda creeped me out to wearing certain types of artificial fibers, I mean when I wear my microfiber pants I deliberately wear the belt loose so if I have something flaming land on me I can kick em off in a hurry :P I mean I once observed the aftermath of a light aviation crash and learned through direct observation that aluminum burns, so while I still love setting things on fire, I tend to be extra cautious. And for the longest time the Massif stuff wasn't that much more expensive then the under armor gear, so at the time it wasn't that bad of a choice.

I was cued into them by a friend who was prepping for his deployment to Afghanistan, where such improved clothing makes the difference between getting heat stroke or not, and coincidently people often try to set you on fire) so it was like an awesome serendipitous discovery, a sweat wicking t shirt thats non melty, huzzah.

I mean do I need to tell you the story of one of my university classmates who set her sweatshirt on fire while making mac and cheese and burned her hands getting it off? the bandages looked like mickey mouses gloves! it was insane! So don't tell me this stuff doesn't happen to people! (okay she also ended up getting massive head trauma while snowboarding and had to drop out of a term due to her hospitalization, so maybe she was just jinxed.)

If it is true Obama downtalks NAFTA then has secret meetings with the Canadians to say he really doesn't mean it it is just "politics". You know there really is very little change he will bring when he denies it then has to admit it. I am curious how many secret meetings he has had with other groups/countries now.

"Stop, Drop, and Roll" wasn't sufficiently able to prevent things from getting out of hand?
• I don't believe every ting politicians say even less what there opponents say about them.

America has the most expensive health care in the world. We also cover fewer people then the other industrialized nations.
We could afford to cover everyone.
Why are drugs less expensive in Canada then here, including the drugs made here? Political power. Drug companies backed Bush the Bloody.

From the morbid contingency department:

What if McCain is elected then dies in office, which would, of course, make Palin the first woman president. Wouldn't that just piss Hillary off to no end....

Not necessarily, Wired.com's article seems to be somewhat exaggerated, but Palin's more than strict abortion opposing views seem to be one of the reasons why McCain picked her (to get more voters on his side).
