I've only seen two of his movies (Blade II and Mimic), I can't say either of them were particularly memorable :(

This part worries me:
The first movie will reportedly tell this story, while the second will show events immediately preceding the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring.
• Blade II was ok and Hellboy too... but Pan's Labyrinth was pretty amazing. I'd say the directing part isn't going to be the weak point of the movie.
  • Take the story to the end of the barrow travel. Then do the other movie. Better yet, do it on tv and leave little out.

At least it's not Michael Bay.

Pan's Labyrinth was nothing short of incredible. I want to watch it again sometime.

Yeah, I heard about this being announced. Didnt know if I could believe it, but there it is. Good. :)

I have to agree with how amazing Pan's Labyrinth was.

Pan's Labyrinth is indeed an incredible movie. Hellboy is possibly the most story-empty movie I've ever seen. This guy seems to make either Hollywood movies or excellent movies. So long as he has the right hat on for this, it'll be fine.

I'm not so sure about that splitting up stuff, though... Does that mean they're going to push all the bits dealing with Gollum into a separate movie?
  • I worry it will mean they will make things up to fill in the time between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. :(

That is the good thing about having Tolkien as source material, the his world is so deep and well defined that a screenwriter shouldn't have to "make things up" beyond the normal book adaption process. That is if said writer did a good job learning and catalogging all the details in his various books beyond The Hobbit and LOTR.

Yeah, my guess is the driving out of Sauron from the southern Mirkwood is the story their going with..
