Mass Effect on fox news!

I just think this is funny as hell (and sad in a way too). Some minor spoilers in the video. I wouldn't care if they just made a fuzz about sex and violence in games in general, but talking about mass effect even not knowing what it's about or even seen the scene is just crap.

And never underestimate the power of gamers and internet. :)

• Video games turned me into a violent rapist.
Seriously though, about the whole being desensitised to violence/sex from video games and such, I have to say that it is probably true that with all the violent stuff we see in movies, games, and such, we are desensitised to it, at least compared to those who don't see it, but of course I sure don't agree with the "Colimbine was because of whatever movie or video game thing". Are some people really influenced to not care about other people from this, or is it just something wrong with them anyway? It's kind of tough to say, and I just go by what I personally see in my life, not some stupid report that I can't see all of.
Porn makes men have no respect for women! Give me a break. I've looked at porn for quite a while and I don't just think of women as sex objects. Hell, I'm still a virgin even. My loss of respect for women comes from the cowardice and hypocricy I see so much from them. Actually, it's not just women, I just detest everyone it seems now. Though the stuff I'm typing here is actually a bit darker than what I actually feel. While I hate and am disgusted with everyone, I still hold the hope that I'm wrong and just generally try to help people when I can, even though I know I most likely won't get anything in return. It's just who I am I guess.
• Oh yeah, and there's actually not sex in Mass Effect? I thought that was one of the major things everyone said about it. I'm confused now.

Well, that depends on your definition of "sex." As I understand it, it's the sort of thing you could get away with on Battlestar Galactica (depending on the number of pelvic thrusts) or NYPD Blue. No hardcore naughty bits stuff. That could explain why Yahtzee said it failed to make his mass erect.

It's american media. I don't know what you all think american media is about, but as far as I can tell, it's all about getting the "OMGzz!!" reaction out of people while the stuff that actually deserves to be reported gets ignored.

They have no idea what they're talking about. Someone told them there was sex in a game and they went haywire without even seeing it. Remember when it was reported that Sims 2 had nudity with fully detailed genitalia and graphic sex scenes etc?

From the videos I've seen of the "sex" scenes in mass effect, it's very tasteful. It's not exactly the usual "pizza boy shows up on a chick's doorstep and she proceeds to unzip him and suck him off" storyline.

I don't remember the exact words, and I don't want to watch the video again for fear of damaging the monitor, but I don't know whether to laugh or cry when someone interviewed says something to the effect of it's sad that parents have to control what their kids are exposed to, instead of the government doing it for them. I realize most people don't know what parenting means, but this is utterly ridiculous.

Even though it's not about this particular issue, there's a JMS quote that fits perfectly.
"As Harlan says, you're not entitled to your opinion, you're entitled to your INFORMED opinion. If you haven't bothered to be informed about something, to be properly educated -- in this case by seeing the thing you're discussing -- then sorry, but your opinion is less than worthless." - J. EA sent a letter to Fox. http://kotaku.com/348187/ea-calls-fox-out-on-insulting-mass-effect-inaccuracies

Still, IMO the sex scene isn't why Mass Effect got the M rating.

This is just a way to fill airspace, the 24hr news cycle.

Funny how the "panel" completely ignores information conveyed by the one person who has actually played the game and goes on to condem the developer, the ratings board and parents....good work Fox News

BTW, how is this any different than a rated R movie?

Because only little children play video games. And immature adults. Duh.

Just think. Another thirty years or so, and we'll be the reactionary morons decrying the horrific morals of modern entertainment.

I for one, am planning to make the most of it. I'll need a front porch, a shotgun, a rocking chair, a screechy voice, and neighbor kids stupid enough to play on my lawn so I can threaten them. Sure, my fifties might be a little young to try to pull that crap, but I don't think anyone will mind. So long as I've got that shotgun.

sounds kinda like Tyvar's plans for the future
• heh, yea, lets put it this way.

The "Full Nudity" scene was shown in their interview. Uncensored.

Yep, that thar is full nudity folks!

Now, if they wanted to rant...the Witcher brings up sex every 5 minutes, LOL. Still, never see anything in the game except a card. heh. (Just as well, seems a bit pointless overall though)
• WORFWORF The Burninator
Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy had interactive sex scenes that were far longer and more graphic than what's in Mass Effect.

But they were removed from the American version, thus preventing Fox from making them seem like a mass orgy.

Messiah, I had a conversation in class today about this Fox vs Mass Effect thing. At least that's how it started...by the end we were talking about throwing children into cages and capital punishment for criminals :D

• Fox is there to manipulate. It isn't news.

The UK had to make a special law just for Faux to be on the air. As there news was so bad.

• C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
