DVD's poor quality?
The Master
Ranger
in Babylon 5
I just got my R4 DVD's and during all scenes, not just live action as I said first off, there is white dots and lines flickering every so often?
Am I the only one seeing this, it's really annoring me.

That sounds like bad discs. Check for visible scratches on the surface of the discs. If you don't see anything, you shoudl return the discs and exchange them for another copy.
I'm quite sure it's not a player as it happens on my Pc and DVD player.
Christ these probs arn't even on my VHS tapes.
I'll have to popin to EzyDVD on Saturday, and i really wanted to watch some episodes but the errors drives me mad.

Unless you have a very soft, fine lint-free cloth that's also free of dust, you risk scratching the discs.

[b]Do NOT wipe off the discs with a towel. This can scratch the discs.

Actually, they won't scratch them if they're wet. They'll scratch em a little only if they're dry and you rub the disk like sandpaper on wood. I'm speaking from experience here.

So am I. There are safe ways to clean a DVD with a cloth, but it's too easy to scratch a DVD; all it takes is a single piece of grit between the DVD and the cloth (even if wet), and you can scratch the surface.
Plus, there are certain ways in which you should wipe a DVD. NEVER wipe the DVD in a circle, always wipe in a straight line from the center outward (that way, if the DVD does scratch, the scratch travles across the data path rather than with it).
DVDs are more susceptible to scratches than CDs because the data pits are smaller.
So just telling someone to wipe the DVD off with a damp cloth is bad advice--you need to give them a few more details. It can easily be done wrong and do more harm than good.
The best way to clean a CD/DVD is to run it under room-temperature water and let it air-dry, or pat it dry with a soft cloth. If there's foreign material on the surface of the CD that can't be removed by water, wiping it (especially if you have to apply any amount of force) will probably cause more damage.

[b]I've never see bad disk produce these types of visual errors.

I bought my DVD's from EzyDVD in Sydney last Monday afternoon. I finished watching them all on Thursday night. I found no problems or defects with my disks. I'm just hanging out for the next set now.....
In fact, my friend who works in the Sydney shop has told me at least two others have come in and bought the set and they want to know when Season 2 will be released too.

I bought the dvd's when tye were first released. I played them on my tv and was *very* impressed with them. Loved them. Everything - the picture, the sound - the extra's etc. Well - christmas comes and it is time to buy more consumer electronics. I buy a brand spanking new 34" 16x9 sony HDTV, surround sound amp, speakers, Progressive scan DVD Player. Now - looking at the same DVD - I notice scratches and imperfections that *never* showed up on my 27" tv. So - the better your equipment, the more likely you are to notice problems
Either way - it is much better than the tapes I have.

My mate called me that about the DVD's, I'm a quality freak now
