Freejack, remember my ignition problem?

SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I was doing some fiddling today, attempting to diagnose the problem we discussed earlier. I found myself pulling plug wires and injector cables, seeming to isolate the problem at cylinder #4. This made no sense, though, I swapped plugs and checked the cap, it's all good!

So I started to think of other possible causes. While I was doing this, I just started habitually fiddling with ignition cables and right before my eyes, the wire for #4 practically dissolved. Found my ignition problem!

The ironic thing is, shortly before coming down from rochester, the last thing I did was throw out some of the trash in the back of my car. Among the debris were spare (old) plug wires, which I tossed because I thought I could never ever see myself using (Cracked bases, low temperature tolerance, but sound cord).

Doh.

More fiddling right now shows the entire run of conductor to be nearly completely corroded. I don't even know how it survived diagnostic tugging. Serves me right for not buying OEM. :P

Yep, that's what I thought! Time for a trip to the parts store.

What are the OEM wires on a Volvo?

Bougicord Type F, the wires of champions. I was running the terrible Bosch cables :P

And who needs parts? I've got a junkyard right at arms length.

Also: I hate you. Stop ruining my car from afar. :p

Hey, what did I do? ;)

Bougicord? Can't say I know that brand. I do know that generally if you don't run motorcraft wires in our cars, you get problems (unless its a real high end race wire).
