Exercise for People Over 40 (really, try this)

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can.

Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks.

Then try 50-lb potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

 :D

  • Aw give me a break. I know people over 40 who do martial arts.

Since I broke up with my girlfriend 2 weeks ago I've been going to the gym every day for at least an hour doing some running and weights. I got up to 16mins continuous running today which I was very pleased with. Wish I'd started going to the gym months ago now.

That said, I dont think I would have done as well if I had gone ages ago as all my feelings of bitterness and anger at the breakup have provided some very potent fuel to keep me going when running for example.

    Hope you feel better, SD.

Cheers. It'll just take a bit of time. I'm just mostly pissed off because she felt she couldnt talk to me about it and instead just seemed to think "fuck it" and threw it all away.

Heh actually when I was running today I was thinking about it, and I couldnt help but think of that line from Return of the Jedi of the Emperor's: "Your hate has made you powerful". Made me smile at least :)
  • I always got depressed at a break up and quit exercising. The wrong thing to do.
    Good luck SD.
