I've heard of some strange uses for Vodka, but this takes the cake.

You should see the Mythbusters episode where they tested the vodka myths to cure poison ivy and clean laundry among other things :D

Yeah I saw that. Did an ok job at cleaning the bathroom as well if one was short of Cillit Bang and such.

I was actually familiar with that fact, for a change. I once sat down and had a chat with a spokesperson-of-sorts of a local chemical plant that handles, among other things, very, very potent poisons. They manufacture glues and other liquid stuff. Some components are of the "one drop on your skin and you're dead, there's no cure" -variety.

One of the stuff that they store in their tanks caused a state of lethal poisoning, which' only antidote was ethyl alcohol. Might've been something as simple as methylene, but am not sure.

Anyways, there you have it. A good reason to keep vodka around the house. :D

Heard about that case too. I've known that for a long time as well. If you drink something which is usually meant e.g. for your car, not for you ;) , and which has methanol in it the treatment is alcohol, which cancels the poison's effect.

I realize the medicinal uses of things like that. But I can just imagine the look on the persons face at the insurance when they got the bill from the hospital which included all of the normal things.... and a case of vodka.
