Don't know what to make of this but IMDB has said today that Doug Liman (Bourne Identity) is looking to remake Knight Rider.

• Ahem... it's KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand).

Beat me to it, Eclecticonaut.

From what i've read, they are planning on doing a 2 hour "Transformers inspired Knight Rider" Made for TV movie, and if it is succesful then develop it into a series.

I dont know what "Transformers Inspired" means, i'm hoping it does NOT mean that K.I.T.T. is going to get up and walk around.

And if they do it, they better get William Danials to do the voice of K.I.T.T. (i'm pretty sure he's still alive) or else it will bite. bigtime
• Exactly. It can't be KITT without him

What is it with all these ramakes?!

Oh no I forgot the T. The Hoff's gonna come and kick my ass :p

Yeah I don't get the Transformers link. Unless its a reference to the cgi/shooting style.

Given the latest news, "Transformers Inspired" does actually mean some aspect of full-on transforming robot factor being put into it. Seems to be the next logical stage in Hollywood's evolution away from original thought. "Why not just remake one show when you can do two!"

Of course, K.I.T.T. Will be effin' awesome if they get Daniels back. With his voice, I'd gladly ignore any potentially offensive transforming robots.

"No, Michael, stop eating hamburgers off my floor."
• i think KITT should be voiced by Billie Dee Williams.

Or Sam Jackson.

Just kidding. That old dude from Boy Meets World IS KITT. I know.

If he comes back, i SUPPOSE i could move past K.I.T.T. transforming into a robot.

mebbe its more along the lines of KITT sprouting lots of CGI driven cool stuff like rocket launchers and turbines for flying an' shit. That would be cool.

The special effects budget for Knightrider was never huge so we never saw anything really funky. CGI makes stuff much easier and cheaper to do so we may well see KITT become a rather more sophisticated beastie in terms of mechanical stuff to go along with the big brain. Even stuff as simple as the animations of the armour self healing after a firefight would be grand.

Now that's a LOL moment.

Hehe, yeah,

Producer 1: Let's see we need a really menacing nemesis for KITT.
Producer 2: I know, lets paint a semi in camo, that will be menacing
Producer 1: ...and cheap!
Producer 2: And we'll make sure we add rocket launcher tubes, it won't be very menacing with out those
Producer 1: Now who will drive it?
Producer 2: Easy, we'll just give Haselhoff a goatee!
Producer 1(in the voice of the charater from those Guinness commercials): Brilliant!

• While it is true that a lack of special effects can make things cheesy (especially on a shoestring TV budget), having too much CGI can be boring. Directors and producers have become lazy IMHO, choosing to rely on CGI that usually looks like shit in 10 years. The example that comes to mind is Star Wars Episode 3. Every freaking shot in that movie was a "special effect". It was overkill. The original Star Wars had very few special effects shots in comparison and I think that is why it stands up to the test of time.

I think episode 1 (or was it 2? the stupidness sort of blends together) is a far better example. I still vividly remember seeing Amidala stumbling across a CGI sand dune and standing next to a CGI storm trooper in the desert. When the director is too lazy to go to a real sand dune or get some guy to dress up in a storm trooper suit, you know it's gone too far.
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
Yeah but sand is all coarse and dry and dusty... oh dear is that where he got the idea for that line? :p

Well as long as they make KITT a bit more realistic, as in not adding car mods that wow make the car do nearly 100mph!! Used to laugh at that so much in the old show. But then I think it was on its last legs by then.
• Anyone remember VIPER? That show was kinda neat.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
VIPER was awesome! Best corporate brand launch tie-in with an action-adventure-cop-drama EVER! The transformation was wicked, but the base car wasn't something to be ashamed of, either.
• RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
Yeah!, but i found it dodgy that they changed the main character after 1 season....
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
That's what happens when your lead realizes the show is a marketing vehicle for a car his salary can't afford ;)
• I recall KITT's bad guy car having a different voice box then KITT. The next season KITT had that very voice box. There was just no reason for that. :P
• FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
It wasn't the voice box, it was the little graphic. The first season, KITT just had a blinking red box, where as later is had an EQ-style respresention with red bars. IIRC KARR (KITTs evil twin) had yellow bars...
