:(
"James Oliver Rigney Jr, author of the long-running fantasy series The Wheel of Time and better known to millions of fans by the pen name Robert Jordan, died on 16 Sept 2007 from cardiac amyloidosis. Jordan announced he had been diagnosed with the disease in March 2006 and vowed to beat the odds, but determination and gumption sometimes just aren't enough in the face of a disease with a median survival time of just over two years. Jordan was in the process of writing the twelfth and final book in the Wheel of Time series, A Memory of Light, but the book was not slated for release until 2009 and is still incomplete. While there is hope that the book will still be finished from Jordan's notes, this is devastating news to all of us who have been reading the series since 1990."
Nope. He never finished it. Wonder how far through he was? At least some others know the story, so it should be able to picked up and finished, but it won't be the same.

And he was fighting so well it seemed up until the end.

Actually these last years, he took to writing down more and more of his thoughts, and he was also looking for someone to finish it incase he died to soon.
This is probably the best site to go if you want news: http://www.wotmania.com/

  • i think complex and confusing as WoT was (at least that's what made me stop after book5) there's imo not many that could finish it... george r. r. martin would be ideal but that would mean delaying the next song of ice and fire book by even more :P

shame though, he defined fantasy and without him some of my favourite writers wouldn't write:(

I'm not a huge fan of his writing style, but he had a fantastically detailed world that most couldn't hope to compete with.

it's not necessarily true that it didn't finish it.. books take 18 months sometimes to produce and he was set to release in 2009...

Dax, according to what I've read, he hasn't finished it, unless he managed to get it done in the last 3 weeks. 3 weeks ago he posted to his blog that he was still writing and recording furiously. By recording, I'm guessing that means voice recording for someone else to transcribe it later in case he couldn't finish actually writing it himself.

George R R has a much more realistic view on things, the books would not be the same, and he should be working on the next book, so I get it faster!!
