Has B5 changed yours, or someone elses life?

It occured to me today, that countless times I've used Babylon 5 as kind of 'bible to life', helping my friends through problems by coining or directly quoting phrases and ways of thinking that I learned from Babylon 5's diverse characters. And you know what, it's really worked. I've even become a wiser person because of this TV show. For many years now, I've always felt heavily influenced by its power - As more than just a science fiction show, it shows us about life and how to deal with those tough times, too. As does many dramatic sources, but for me, the source of many lifes lessons came not from my parents, but from B5.

Here's to Babylon 5.

  • It has totally changed my life. Babylon 5 + The Beatles, in all honesty, made me who I am today.

I grew up watching Babylon 5, I think it helped me turn out the way I did.

When Falcon1 and I met JMS, this lady approached him at the end and wanted to thank him for creating Babylon 5. Apparently she was very ill or something like that. She bought the videos and watching them gave her hope, in turn helping her to recover.

As corny as it sounds, I wouldn't have made it as far as I have were it not for B5. Other "dramatic sources," both old and new, as HuntSmacker put it, have had an influence as well, but B5 is by far the greatest.

Same. I am amazed at how often I spout off something that originated from B5, be it a quote or a thought, without even being intentional.

Not that I'm trying to out do anyone here, but without B5 I honestly don't think I'd be alive to post this. I went through some very dark times when I was growing up, and B5 was the shining beacon that got me through the worst times.

Me too. B5 definitely had a huge impact on my life. It's strange to think that if I had never seen the show I'd probably have a totally different life right now.

I can't begin to express the impact this series had on me (and still does).

Many of you know some of the directions I went due to this show, but there are a lot of things hidden from view that I have gained from this series and it's timeless wisdom in the scripts.

When it comes down to it, JMS is the source of this wisdom, but in bringin this wisdom to others I think he gained also from his own work. IT has become far greater than the sum of all of it's parts, fans, and visuals.

I know that I wouldn't be here where I am in my life without it. Where I would be at this point? Who can say, but it wouldn't likely have been as rich an experience as I have now.

    :)
  • I've been lurking around at Firstones for years (honestly, years..since the game got cancelled if memory serves), but when I saw this thread I just felt I had to reply.

So yes. B5 has changed my life, without going to that first convention in London sometime during 1999 I would've never met my wife. It helped me get over some harsh times and it also taught me that dreams can be broken, hard. (An incident with Claudia Christian..Will never forget that one)

I think that in end, B5 affected most aspects of life for me, sometimes I just say something to someone and ask myself.."Where did I hear that before?"
And the answer is just obvious...Babylon 5:)

Good first post, I would say welcome, but I guess you know the drill if youve been lurking around here.. :)

I think Babylon 5 and transformers have influenced me far more than any other source in my life (excepting parents and stuff). Mostly by the general idea that if you really want something, you can make it happen.

Sheridan and Optimus primes ideals are the ones I try to uphold in everyday life, sure Ive read a few (read: lots) fantasy novels in my life, and the honor anr glory part are always what I hang onto in those as well, but I dont think any one character ever summarised them as well as optimus prime did, or the general feeling of b5.

Marching band and drum corps are the other major influences in my life, and they follow the same themes.

"If being great at something was easy, everyone would be."
"Greatness can only be seen when no one is watching. That is integrity; doing the right thing all the time."
  • It's only a simple misunderstanding. That's true of so many things.

I excel at misunderstandings on both sides.
  • It has.

Foremost by provoking me to ask myself... what I really wish from the future, both in terms of personal life, and contribution to ventures which change the world around.

I suspect that, gratitude to this quite inspiring story, I have asked of myself certain questions which I otherwise might have skipped... have been critical of some things, and found motivation to pursue others... which I might have otherwise considered too difficult.

Of course, B5 hasn't by any means been my sole source of inspiration, but a very significant one. I am happy to have stumbled on this story.
