Spock cast for Star Trek XI
WORF
The Burninator
in Zocalo v2.0
It appears that Leonard Nemoy will be playing Spock again but they've also cast Zachary Quinto to play the younger Spock. Having seen him in Heroes, he's a pretty good choice.

No word on who will be Kirk yet, apparently Matt Damon thinks he's too old for the part.

why piss off the fans who you want to go see your movie?
Thing is if they do pick Matt Damon then there's bound to be a South Park piss take of the new Trek film when they have him redo the "KHAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!" scene, but this time he'll just say "MAAAATT DAAAAMON". I can see it happening :D
If there's something this franchise needs it's fresh blood, a reset is exactly what the doctor ordered but the question remains, is J.J. Abrams up to the task?
Ok, so Enterprise is a bad example of such a reset, but then J.J. Abrams wasn't involved. I like the way he tackles shows. I'm hopeful he'll pull off something like Star Trek II or IV, anything else would be a let-down. The franchise needs action and proper pacing, otherwise it will fail. While I do like the original and the TNG cast, it's way time for a new generation, and I mean also behind the cameras.
I don't know if you've checked out the new BIONIC WOMAN, but that show may also kick some serious a$$. :D (It has Starbuck in it too... and it looks like she's really bad too.)
I really like where these reinvented shows are going, it's like someone turned a page and the days of old are gone, for good.
So I'm not particular eager to see Sisko again, but I don't really understand why they don't plan on making any movies about DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. The current target audience is much more familiar with the new shows.

I don't. He tends to start up a really good show, then run off to start another really good show before finishing more than a season or two of the previous one, leaving it to flounder under other writers with no sense of direction and eventually die a slow, horrible death. Hopefully he won't do the same thing with this movie. :)
Why did they miss out? Because of the personal feelings of Former Executive Producer Rick Berman towards Avery Brooks (Ben Sisko). I shit you not. We got shafted on a DS9 movie because Berman is a dick who holds a grudge.
As for Zach Quinto, I think its good casting, but what really gets me excited is Leonard Nimoy. Remember this is the same guy who turned down roles in TNG movies because he didn't think the scripts were any good. He said the script is fantastic, and he loves the casting of Zach as a young Spock. If thats not enough to get excited about, I don't know what is.
Its a lot of stuff, or maybe its nothing at all. Either way, a DS9 movie will never be.
I'm with CurZ, Sisko is also easily my favorite Captain.
Yeah, I'm with you there. Parts of Season 3 and 90% of season 4 were quite good. You could see the step up in quality once B&B were replaced as showrunners. (Just look at the ginormous screwups that happened under their watch. Changing the theme to sound more upbeat, when the show itself gets darker (3rd season)? And don't get me started on the last episode...)
I wish they'd gone ahead with jms' reimagining..
I'm cautiously optimistic towards the new movie. Mission Impossible 3 was not the pile of crap it could have been, there was even teamwork in it, not just "The Tom Cruise Show". I kinda hope that Micheal Giacchino doesn't do the music, though. I think he's a great composer (just listen to the Incredibles score), but i feel the music coming out of his colaborations with JJ aren't the best work he can do.

Well, I doubt his attention span is shorter than that of a feature film, so I don't expect him to jump ship before production work on ST XI is done. :D
I liked Alias a lot more than BSG, and Alias fared a lot better (even without JJA) than BSG did with RDM at the helm. So, I feel a lot more hopeful about the ST XI with JJA at the controls than I would with RDM (even though RDM would be the ST veteran). The question is, why isn't RDM involved? Only the studio knows why they didn't pick him. It's not like RDM was too busy because they are used to working on several projects simultaneously, he said so in his podcasts. I don't really know enough about RDM's work on ST to have an opinion about it, but I'm correlating his BSG work to what he might have done to ST XI and I'm not convinced he'd do a better job. At least I have strong reservations.
I know what you mean, that's why I like B5 so much, it's somewhat closer to home.
That Andromeda?
Annoyingly the whole original concept for the series was ruined and replaced with utter tripe. Hercules in Space, thats what they should have called it.
They should do something on the fall of the Federation. It would be so cool. Like DS9 but even darker. Even the TNG alternate universe episode when the Federation was at war with the Klingons and losing badly was great. For just one episode it had so much depth and intrigue for me, was so much more potential to explore.
