Four Emmy nods for BSG

Well its not quite the ones many of us wish it would get but for the first time they got two nominations for something a bit more substancial than special effects(they did get that one as well though).

Felix Alcala, Director

Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series

They are going against some big hitters like The Sopranos so I don't think there's any chance they'll win.

Also, congratulations to our own Alec McClymont, who's part of the team in the BSG special effects nomination.

I think it would be a pretty big deal if it won the outstanding writing, but its up against 3 Soprano episodes and being the emmy's are largely a popularity contest, it's going to be hard.
It would be ridiculous for anything else to win special effects.

If they won, it would be well deserved. Here's hoping!

Hey Eureka's up for Special Effects! Sweet!
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
The effects in Eureka were good but BSG should get it since they used so much more and overall the quality has been excellent. Thinking about it though Heros could have a look in as the effects on that show have been darn good as well. I suspect too that the Sopranos will sweep the boards. Never really got into that show.

Eureka has seamless integration on its side. It can be very difficult to determine when a VFX shot begins and ends. Seamless and beautiful. But BSG's VFX shots are (generally) as good and far more numerous. Seems like it is more likely to come out.

I'm not normally one to gravedig, but I didn't want to make a new topic. BSG won the visual effects Emmy, but lost the sound effects Emmy to 24. Next Sunday, we'll find out about directing and writing.

This means, of course, we now have an emmy award winning poster among us. Kudos!
• Vorlons in my HeadVorlons in my Head The Vorlons told me to.
Is it that time already? I thought all the awards were given on the same day?
• David of MacDavid of Mac Elite Ranger Ca
Nope. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were given out a week and a day before the Primetime Emmys proper.
• Vorlons in my HeadVorlons in my Head The Vorlons told me to.
Excellent! Would have been a crime for the series to not get at least one VFX Emmy throughout its course. Now if they can just win that writing and directing category maybe that will bring new interest and viewers onto the show, when it doesn't really matter much anymore as it's already ending and mostly done filming.
• I have only seen a few episodes. :( no cable. Must... rent,... show.... !

Has BSG ever won any Hugo Awards?

• WORFWORF The Burninator
Congrats Alec M :)

Worf
• So, Alec, is it all yours? Or do you have to share it with peers? Is it one of those 'this week at your house, next week at mine' kind of things?

Congratulations! And clearly I do not pay enough attention on these boards, else I would have known you were involved with BSG's vfx! And I would have been hounding you for scraps of info to help with Beyond the Red Line long ago, shameful or not!
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Who cares about that shiny thing that collects dust, I want that rig in the background! ;)
• Alec MAlec M Award Winning Poster
It's all mine. Everyone who is actually named as a nominee gets an Emmy if they win.

Croxis: :p
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
That's awesome. Congratulations!
• Right on...very cool indeed.

If you ever get tired of having that antique around, let me know and I'll come take it off your hands. Special deal this week: No charge on pickup!
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
Alec you'd better start building a trophy cabinet :) Congratulations!

Well I'm redecorating my apartment after breaking up with the girlfriend, so I was thinking of getting some kind of red velvet covered rotating table, and setting up a three point spot light system of some kind.

It's just an idea right now :p
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
With a turn table. You got to have a turn table.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Definitely. A motorised one with a variable speed setting. Or go to the next level and put it in one of those gyroscope things.
• Actually, when I read your description for the table I pictured the Emmy rotating...so yeah, it definately goes without saying...must have a turntable.
• Rotating table needed... NICE!!!!!!!!!!!
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Congratulations Alec! I agree on the turntable.. :p
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
Sorry to hear about the breakup dude but what a way to bounce back with an frackin Emmy!!!

Turntable sounds excellent. I would recommend building such a device and have the emmy kept in a hidden central tube. Then when friends come round and go "oh whats that?" and you say "oh thats for my emmy" and press a button and it majestically rises up out of the table with great fanfair and dramatic music playing. I'm sure they would be impressed.

Hmm maybe thats taking it too far ;)
