Well, iRiver was technically second to the mark when comparing against Apple, but they were producing media players before Apple had the iPod. Hell, before the iPod stole the scene, iRiver was the top media player manufacturer. Back in the day, I had an iRiver SlimX MP3 CD Player (which succeeded a TDK Mojo MP3 CD Player as my primary source for music). I only replaced the iRiver this last Christmas, which was when I received my first iPod as a gift.
I'm thinking the same as you David, my 10gb gen 2 ipod needs replacing but with the iPhone only on 8gb I'd need a 20gb one to come along before getting it.
I have found it interesting the massive amount of negative comments being made about the iPhone. I think people are forgetting the key to it is the software. All the demoes/videos show it to be really intuitive. Lets face it, mobile phones have been stagnant for a long time, adding nothing new but more gadgets and ignoring the software. Sure they've gotten better (I shudder when I remember my old Nokia 3330) but there's so much room for improvement.
The other thing people are forgetting is that this is a much higher quality phone that most. Even the screen seems worth the price. I've read reports where they've tried scratching it with keys to no avail. My K800i already has a scratch on the screen and I never have it near my keys.
At the end of the day what Apple has done here is good, given the rest of the "big players" and good kick in the ass and made them think about what they make. The next few years should be interesting.
Well, the iPhone is cool but there's nothing new except the interface and software stuff and why it doesn't interest me is that I use my smartphone with one hand alot. From what I understand that's quite hard on the iPhone.
Yeah I think that will be an issue for many as it is a wide phone. I've read where some can use it with one hand but if you have big hands maybe that helps.

"Well, here's the deal. The iPhone has a higher resolution screen, Wi-Fi support, full audio-and-video playing capability, over a hundred times the harddrive space, twice the talk-time and costs less than your Trio did when it was brand new. And I'm pretty sure the touch-screen is better, too.
Thank God we can still just write it off as being "trendwhore bait," then. Further, I'm so glad to finally know I'm a trendwhore. I thought I'd just had good experiences with the Apple's products as compared to those of their competitors for the past two decades, but now I know I merely ache for the approval of my peers through the types of gadgetry I buy (but then why did I buy from Apple before five years ago, when they weren't "trendy"?). Tell me, are cars of Japanese design also "trendwhore bait"? I simply must know whether my automotive preferences are similarly shallow. I had thought I had legitimate reasons for preferring those, too, but apparently I'm just too stupid to tell."

And when it's as cheap as what I paid for my Treo, and on as fast a network, I might look at it again. Until then, I look with bemusement at those who stood in line for hours to get one.
Yeah. Early adopters. What fuckwits. We'd be better off without them. Then new products would simply wither and die without a market, I wouldn't own a computer, and I wouldn't have to marvel at people who insult others who don't share their conviction that first-rate crap is only worth buying once it's old enough to become third-rate crap.

It's amazing how something new can always bring out to very vocal camps of extreme opposites. It's either absolute crap or it's absolutely wonderful. The XBox 360, the PS3, the Wii, and the iPhone all come to mind as recent examples. Why must something be either crap or perfect? Why can't some people accept that something new has both good and bad points?
Most of the reviews I've read had praised the iPhone but also picked up on quite a few issues. Most should be fixed with software updates but others like the headphone jack require the purchase of an adaptor to use any standard headphone. Bit stupid really!

where's the fun in that. :P

The fun comes from having a much wider range of devices to enjoy. :)
I got a 15 buck prepaid phone that has voicemail and good coverage, and an decent but cheap mp3 player with an sd card slot, that's all I got and need. If I need better, I have my landline and my thx certified sound system on my computer. Besides, I heard a hellacous problem with the Iphone, like how bad people had problems with Battlefront I and II. Tons of people yelling, no one answering. And for an I-pod, I wouldn't pay more than 20 bucks for thoes on steriods sound file players. The only advantage I see an I-pod for is that's the only damn thing they make accessories for. Oh and the Zune is having tons of problems too. They extended the Zune and the X-box 360 warrenty to 3 years because they are breaking down tooo quickly. But don't quote me on that, that's just what I heard though the grapevine.
Anyway, that lady who paid $800 for the first spot in line cracks me up. I see assholes like that every day at work. They roll up in their $60,000 car and think the world owes them a favor. It's nice to see one of them get bitch-slapped like they deserve. :D
I need a new laptop, i got a dell configured just the way i wanted, about $1800, I make quite good money in the summer, so i CAN afford it, but it took me 4 DAYS of waffling before i actually could bring myself to click the "buy" button.
(kinda glad i waited the 4 days, cause when i finally got around to ordering it, they had doubled the memory, doubled the harddrive, and the price dropped by $300)
People who spend $800 for a spot in line, ugh, that really rubs my rhubarb! i work damn hard for my money, and to see people just waste it like that, UGH, i guess that comes with being rich, but, UGH!
And if I learned anything from Batman, it is never rub another man's rhubarb. ;)
Anyway, I know there are many nice "rich" people out there. And I can't that say I lived in poverty growing up either (I had a stable, middle-class household). But it's the snooty rich people that I just can't stand.
Look at those scuffs on the inside of the jug, and how long it took before it stopped working. That little bastard didn't go down without a fight. And I was impressed that the metal frame survived (comparatively) intact.

L33T speak... R U OK? ROFLMAO
Who makes this stuff up anyway? And why do we use it?
I still pronounce "warez" like "Juarez," even though I know "better."

It'll cost you an arm and a leg though.
And this freshly from the WTF-department, two guys wasting a new iPhone.... to see what's inside?!

Well, I sure hope they found whatever they were looking for...

She wasn't as hip as she thought she was. Smarts don't always go hand in hand with money, I guess. ;)
Rules are rules...
Oh and the new word of the day: She was iPhowned. :D

Money apparently means different things to different people. :D
iPhone 2.0 is probably going to be reasonable.
Here's a good review:

Yeah ok its a mac site but I think the review was fairly balanced.
where's the fun in that. :P
