I've been wanting to do a 'TV with B5' thingy

For a wile. So I figured I would take it out on you. Now I need to start all over with The Gathering. I just saw it twoish weeks ago. I have a bad memory.

I'm vary bad at spelling and I just keep forgetting how to do the 'extra' things with the software. Yes, I'm one of the not registered who has been following for 'round a year.

It was imposable to pick Green or Purple. My lucky and favorite colors, officially.

    Welcome....

...I think I'm supposed to say something about nuts and a fridge but....

    ...oh look shiny things....

I always find there's a certain irony present when I say to a newbie that the nuts are all over the place given how allergic I am to nuts
  • Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
    Green nuts

oh and welcome to the brotherhood :)
  • Space GhostSpace Ghost Elite Ranger
Welcome to the community! Keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times, keep your tray table locked, in its upright position, and remember, at Firstones, nobody can hear you scream... actually, we will, but most of us ignore it. ;)

    The beers in the fridge.

I find it helps if you do the B5 thingy with friends. Its hard to have the stamina to watch several hours of TV anyway alone.

    Oh and welcome! :)
  • Having had followed this First Ones for a wile I know were the beer is 8x. I hope not to move you off your axis, or mess up the Zen Stone Garden.

    ---> See I watch the < can't recall the correct word > 1st movie!

I've been following the Babylon Pod Cast. Got it confirmed that what I bought is not what was aired.

Anyway,... Londo's hair :o New look is better.
Too bad they changed Delen to a woman. Too much make up anyway!

The important part: Glad the 'net was dropped. Too powerful. Seemed too high a teck advance for all but the first ones.

Glad they dropped the studying to advance in psy levels.
I liked Lita's acting here much better then in the series. Please don't kill me.
Kosh's 'hand' sticking out of the suit?
Breaking the rules to read someones mind? Better writeing please.
As funny as it was I didn't like the fake < or real> bugging of an ambasador.

All in all a good show. The Windblades were right.

P.S. I watch the shows wile I do certain exercises. So I do miss things and am distracted. To say three shows a weak.

dictionary.com got a workout. Sorry for length.
  • Space GhostSpace Ghost Elite Ranger
We may have seen Kosh's "hand", but that doesn't mean that's what it "really" was. ;)
  • Must remember to log in before going to threads!

I do recall Lita saying if she saw Kosh wile reading his mind she would see her body.

The problem I have with it is it makes the encounter suit too much like a cloak instead of protection from the outside air. ( Evin though Kosh didn't need the suit he wanted others to think he did. < as I see it.> )

Just having the small parts, if that was part of Kosh, wiggling about let me wounder just what they were.

I found it to be a simplistic writing way to deliver poison.

Have you seen Babylon 5 before?
  • I have seen the first season 80 times by the time I got the second. I have The Gathering on two different DVDs. I've been going through B5 three times a week for over two years. I have all the movies, Crusade and TLT on order.

I know the names of the first three books before the tv show came out. People who read it told me people in the story would go away for a long time then pop back in. Told me not to read it. They would come into the book store were I worked mad.

From what I understand < I don't recall actors names well so... > Sinclair was what JMS wanted for the Caption to be. Gideon is a lot like Sinclair to me.

I have much more to say yet have gone on to long all ready. ;)

    You need another hobby =P

Like posting on a defunct video game's forum? :P
  • croxiscroxis I am the walrus
    Yes!
  • Anyone know the actual timeline to do a marathon with all of it? I wanna watch everything in cronological order.

  • I just tiped the first epasode in and was told to log in. I'm not going to do it agean and have it dumped.
  • Soul Hunter
    1)Good point of view discussion.

2)Are they that short on good pilots the Caption has to go out to save the day?

    3) Soul Saving should be left up to the person being saved. Not Soul Hunter or Minbari.

    4) Surprising < to me > such a large machine must be brought in. Seems it would be easy to disrupt the setup.

Religious views is the best part of this show to me.
  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Chaosed, to prevent that logout event from happening again, I would suggest checking the "remember me" box on the login page. There still appears to be an issue on some systems where the logout timer is broken when the box is not checked. It is set correctly, but does not always work.

If it does happen again, just connect to the forums in a new tab/window and log in there, then go re-submit your post. that should solve the problem.
  • OK Sam will do. Thanks. /bows deeply

    And on the primal point,...

I've read the books up to #5 The touch of your shadow, the whisper of your name.

They have been real bad but getting better with each one. When do they get good?
  • David of MacDavid of Mac Elite Ranger Ca
The numbered books are usually avoided and ignored, except for #7, The Shadow Within, and #9, To Dream In The City Of Sorrows. #8 is absolutely terrible.

Interestingly, I got into the show through the books, the first few of which were a gift from my sister. I didn't see Babylon 5 as television until well after reading most of the numbered books, and the novelizations of the first two movies.
  • Thanks. I'll read the books anyway becouse I'm just that much of a fanboy. But now I know what to look forward to. :)

Of course, the three trilogies are all much better (though they're harder to find nowadays). My personal favorite is the Legions Of Fire trilogy, by Peter David, which describes what happens in the galaxy and Centauri Prime in particular in the fifteen years after the end of the show. There's also the Technomage trilogy, by Jeanne Cavelos, which tells what the Technomages were doing for the first three years of the show ("The Shadow Within," by the same author, is a sort of loose prequel to these books). The Psi-Corps trilogy, by J. Gregory Keyes, begins with a book detailing the creation of the Psi-Corps, up to the birth of Bester. The second book is Bester's life story, up to his first appearance on the show in "Mind War." The last one takes place about ten years after the end of the show, with Bester on the run.
  • I have gotten the list of the official books off the Great Machine. I understand some of them are quit good. I don't understand how the bad books were allowed in the first place.

    Anyway on to:

    Born to the Purple

    1) 'Aids pushing people around people for hitting on them in hitting on them bars? Well I guess thats what Diplomatic Immunity is for.

    2) First the Narns are mad at Vir for playing with the video game. Then there playing with it and hitting it! too funny.

    3) A bit easy to get into coded files. But they do seem to have a history of that.

    4) " just don't give away Home World " times two. :)

    5) The comfort to 'zap' people in full view and expect to git away with it. Things are worse then I thought.

    6) Mike catching Susan. He doesn't let someone else take care of it.

    7) I'm not a big fan of bending ( breaking ) rules unless the rules are dumb. Being on the paranoid side I like that people with psy aren't supposed to go around reading minds. I would have liked it better if it was shown how difficult it was for Talia to decide to go along with the request with a history of her saying no.
I'll guess to save a life is ok though.
  • Infection

One of a few JMS sed he didn't like. I herd that some were.

    1) The Caption is a real hands on guy. Too much for me and I'm glad too much for Garabaldi too. :) That is his job. I must try to remember that line.

    2) The device taking on anyone, incorporate them to protect there biosphere seems odd to me when done by religious zealots.

    3) IPX can't be found on a search? I wish I had some stock in that corp. as they went big time named.

    4) The machine was made to protect Icara 7 as they had been invaded over 1/2 a dozen times.
Others may have hated this episode but that invaded statement made it for me. There were wars between planets noone knows about.

    5) Just what did happen. The Icara machine just disappeared? The human had no marks? Please no.

    6) Sinclair looking for something to die fore. Fits with the movie The Gathering.

    7) Sinclair's interview with ISN were he sed something to the effect of,

If we don't go to the stars our history will be forgotten. All will be for not.

Doing things for now is good enough. Having had a good life is important weather anyone far off in the future knows about it or not.

What I got out of it is long past forgotten wars.
  • Parliament of Dreams

    1) Garabalidi following rules. The airlock test.

    2) NaGrath has no thumbs! How dose he(?) hold things? <-- cheep shot.

    3) Cathern's introduction. Much lamented.

    4) Delen and the ritual. Hint abandoned. Can it be seen how much I cry for the original story? :p

    5) The hit man to kill G'Kar. To show how bloody, how willing to kill each other they are. To make sure we found him a bad man from bad peoples.

A good introduction to the species. One of my favorites.
  • Mind War

    1) The making of ships go away. The power, The 'god' ability(s). Always makes me nervous. We never hear from jayson again. I had thought when the 1st ones left he might be there but no. /shruge

    2) Susan being nice with the watter for Talia. :) How much attention do I have? Will I see the build up I have been told to look for.

    3) Bester, Garabuldi; And so it begins.

    4) Cygnia 957 is occupied. MMmm 1st ones.

    5) Sinclair hits a Psy Cop.?!? Please no.

    6) Bester's 'salute'
  • The War Prayer

Now to further show how bad I'm at writing down names. :p

    1) I rather liked the poet. I don't think we herd from her again.

    2) Should this episode have come before Born to the Purple? Or dose Londo's softening from his relationship with umm the dancer let him warm up to the kid's relationship?

    3) Sinclair and Susan wondering how Kosh got poisoned when he was in his encounter suit. }:)

    4) The invisible 'Black suits' the military is working on. We never see them again

    5) Lastly; every one is out to git the Narn! :csmile:
  • David of MacDavid of Mac Elite Ranger Ca
I'm sure the Black Suits were shipped off Bureau 13, and were thus never seen again.
  • Like the shape shifting suits from " The Gathering ". It can ruin the show.

A simple noting the energy signature after the devices are discovered would work. Something that works that well should not be dropped from the story so carelessly.
  • David of MacDavid of Mac Elite Ranger Ca
Well, something very much like the Changeling Net appeared in "Legend of the Rangers," and one was also used in the Centauri Prime books.
