I plan to use saturday to, besides sleep, perhaps install iB v2 on this server, then import the user database, and export in an iB compatible format, then import it into iB v3 on the RadiusCo server, and then work out the square root of -1, cure cancer, and then turn it on. :P

Yeah Ikon Board is nice and stable. It's been running on Beyond Babylon for quite some time. It used to be UBB, and it was always choking, not to mention it was on a windows OS...
The last straw was a Nimda attack that resurrected itself a few days later, after just being cleaned out.

Yeah...IKonboard is ugly. VBB is very nice and PHPBB isn't bad.

My Ikonboard looks fine, I tried to get phpboard working, but ran into a snag, and then heard horrorstories about the security holes in it, so decided to just stick with Ib

The better patch is near the end of the article...the first is a quick fix. Both work, the later one makes it easier though.

Yes, it does, But everyone i've talked to who's used it has said that phpboard is a lot more vulnerable.
I'm not saying one is particulatrly better than the other, because i've never really played with phpbb. i'm just going by what friends who've used both have said,

VBB is better than them all, iKonboard sucks big time though, but I say that about any script that isn't php/mysql!

I've used phpBB. I don't know much about the security side of it, but I found it very nice to maintain.

I've helped an admin on iKonboard. It seems easy to maintain until you get a lot of people on the board and a complex board set up completed.
Then it becomes h**l.
Basically, iKonboard admin panels begin to crash when you get too much stuff on them. The reason is becuae iKonboard decided not to put in "pages" in the admin panels and instead show all the relevent data on one VERY LONG page.
What happens is the CGI part of iKonboard, which runs serverside, gets VERY busy becuase its trying, unsuccessfully, to pull way too much data out. The result is it often times out and you get nothing. When you do get something, its often unreadably becuase its just toooo long.
This doesn't effect the forums themselves though becuase they actually do use pages of data. But its still not as clean as a MySQL based BBS is...

iKonboard is CGI based, ie, text files on the HD. It is not database driven at all...
And believe me, the forum that I wound up installing 300+ smiles on had problems with it's iKonboard...lots of them.

As far as I know, they all use SQL for the database. It's what they use for running the actual board that's important.

UBB isn't MySQL based.
And as far as I know, CGIs can't access a MySQL database. It has to be PHP or ASP (there are a few others also) to access MySQL.
iKonboard is writen in CGIs. If it uses MySQL, that will be new to me.

As far as I know, they all use SQL for the database. It's what they use for running the actual board that's important.
