Tell me about it. For this new flat I'm in now, we're paying £75 more a month than the last place. To be fair it is a lot nicer than the last place, but I'm not convinced it's worth that much! But we were desperate to find a place, or else we'd have been living back with our parents for at least a couple of months. Maybe we shoulda.....

if this place were nice, i wouldnt have as much of a problem with it, it has 3 good things, #1, good location, its close to work and right in the middle of town, #2, a kick ass back yard, #3, a fairly absentee landlord, so we dont have to deal with him, and we can do most repairs and things ourselves.

But the place is falling apart, when my sister in law lived there, it was $600/month when we moved in they raised the rent up to $800/month, and now its $925/month, and we have to pay all the rent over the summer, so we pay double rent all summer, but none in the winter, so from June 1st till Nov 1st, we have to pay $1850/month, PLUS utilities, PLUS water/sewer.

    for finagles sake!

I have had similar issues with the freeholder of the block of flats I live in. He's responsible for organising repairs etc but never does. Some of the stuff that needs doing is serious, like broken rubber nose guards on the steps... so easy to take a tumble on em. And we also had no lights in the hall way for over a month. Again not a good combination with broken steps. But I don't have to worry about it now. I accepted an offer on my flat (1st and only one since it went on the market on the 14th of february). Will be a while before contracts exchange etc but now I gotta think about boxing stuff up.. oh man I hate all that! But still can't wait to move on to the next phase. Exciting times ahead :)

Entil'Zha can't you try the legal angle on the landlord? Say that stuff is in bad repair and getting dangerous. Law suits due to injury from crap upkeep can scare some people into action.

I suppose i could, but i'd rather find a better apartment (or put money into buying a house)
