I know these @home things arent anything new, but its good to see a company like sony signing up to one. Peak speeds of 700 teraflops, and an average speed of 400!

What are all the @home projects, does anyone know? There's this one, seti, and a climate change one that I know of off hand

You need Alzheimer's to forget how much you paid for that freakin' thing. ;)

But, I guess it's good that it's doing something productive. My grandmother had Alzheimer's Disease and let me tell you, it wasn't a pleasant experience. :(

The one I do is called Folding@home. Its not a one chance in a million as the seti project. Folding@Home instead is folding and misfolding protein strands in a better effort to understand diseases like Cancer, Alzheimer's things like that.

I am on the Maximum PC team.

It is a cool piece of software. It takes about 4 1/2 hours per work unit. Supposedly IBM/Sony are releasing an update which will make it process even faster soon. It is rumored it eats about 250 watts when doing it though. I havent tested it with a meter myself. Light bill did go up a tad. Folding is probably better focus then Seti but thats an opinion.

It is cool that sony has actually given people the choise to do this and pritty cool that it's faster than a computer CPU.
But I read somewhere (can't remember the link) that a graphics card is actually the fastest at calculating these things. Too bad it's only supported for some ATI cards.

The drivers have not been optimised yet. Currently ATI latest card can't beat Nvidas 8800GTX.

    55 Tflops for GPU's
