The Official Doctor Who Theories and Spoilers Thread

High Priestess of Squeee!
in Zocalo v2.0
I'm having such fun with all these theories and spoilers, I had to make it official. Sanfam is probably going to kill me. I don't care.
I was just on the Doctor Who Online forums and they postulated some REALLY interesting theories as to themes showing up so far in Season 3 and how those themes might relate to and/or affect the big finale of the season.
Recurring theme/theory #1 (through the middle of the season):
Evolution, change, survival
Smith and Jones: The Plasmavore needs to survive and can hide itself by being an 'internal' shapeshifter. By absorbing human blood, it appears human.
The Shakespeare Code: The Carrionites seek to survive using human words to recreate their race.
Gridlock: The Macra survive on human pollution and consuming humans. The Doctor has to renew the Humans of New Earth by releasing them from their sterile, 'gridlocked' existence.
Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks: The Daleks plan to survive and evolve by using humans.
The Lazarus Experiment: Lazarus apparently uses a device to renew or regenerate himself.
Human Nature: The Doctor 'evolves' into a human.
Could the Time Lords have 'evolved'? Hence the Doctor is 'not alone' but is the last of his kind.
Recurring theme/theory #2: (through of the end of the series)
Faith, Religion
Gridlock: The faith of the trapped people, singing hymns and forming a community in dire circumstances
Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks: Tallulah's Heaven and Hell song, Mr. Diagoras vs Solomon (Diagoras was a pre-Christian Atheist philosopher while Solomon fit the religious reference in the scene where he settled the dispute over the bread and how he is the equal and opposite of Mr. Diagoras), and we know from an interview with Russell that there will be an Archangel in the finale.
So what do you guys think?
Amusing side note...I think it's adorable that many British fans on the forums call Russell T Davies "Ruffle Tea". That's just cute.

Worf: As long as I have someone reading my posts I won't. :D
Spoiler: I was with The Doctor and Martha, there was some sort of anagram puzzle they were trying to work out. Given that "Mister Saxon" is an anagram of "The Master Six" I think that might be it.

One thing I have to say right away, a phone booth is not as hot as a DeLorean to travel through time and space. Ok, the booth has more room inside, it's one of those that's bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside, neat trick.
Man, that show is so whacky... I mean... and so British... the accents... and I don't mean John Cleese British... but Spice girls British... posh even. :D I don't even know what it means.
The doctor is... just as whacky... I had a physics teacher once like him, an astronomer....
It's a bit tough (or as they said, "toff") to rate this episode, it's visually a bit underwhelming because it took place in a contemporary setting. The dummies didn't really come across as particular scary, the carnivorous trash container was a little more intimidating.
The sneak peek for the second episode at the end was intriguing enough to warrant a look.
So, I guess, I liked it well enough to watch more of it... it's no BSG and no B5, but since it appears to be something completely different, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Rose was the first episode of the new series, good place to start, unless you want to go all the way back to the 1963 beginning ;)
The Tardis has always looked like that, its appearance gets explained to new fans later (it was explained before in the old series too) but if you really want to know now: Spoiler: During the 1960s, those blue police boxes were quite common, the Tardis has a sort of cloaking device that allows it to take on the image of something from the time period it's in so it's hidden. It got stuck and so that particular image has remained the same since the very first episode.
They go to plenty of non modern looking places, don't worry :)
The Autons are an old enemy that have appeared before, they looked like plastic dummies back then too.
Glad you're enjoyed the first episode, I hope you continue to do so :)

Yes it is completely different that BSG or Babylon 5. Those two are both meant to be very dramatic and serious shows while Doctor Who is more about adventure and fun. It's a family show so it doesn't get too deeply dramatic, so I suppose it's a lot like Back to the Future (which is my favorite movie in the whole bloody world!)
While the show is a bit less dramatic than BSG, I wouldn't necessarily call it family fun, several characters were killed (fried to be exact) and the Doctor played judge, jury and executionner....
I guess I should start to expect the unexpected. I'm not sure where the story is going, the overarching plot seems to be very slim so far.
It's probably too early to judge, but I hope there's more going on than that.
Next episode has us travelling into the past... not too far though but I suppose they'll stick out of the crow with their modern outfits, zippers and all.
I'd like one of those cell phones too, that let you call back through time. :D
The 4th episode teaser has a UFO crash land in the Thames river near the house of parliament in London... not without damaging Big Ben on its way down.... so I guess I'll have to check it out. (Edit: Since it's a two-part episode I'll have to watch the 5th one too... now look at what you have me do?? I hope you are satisfied...)
Funny how Rose had to worry about her wardrobe in this episode, while the Doctor did not, even though he's wearing a black leather jacket that's most definitely not following the fashion trends at the time of Charles Dickens...
Unlike BSG, there is no need to worry about science, continuity or logic, because it's just all over the place and much like a rollercoaster ride, you just hold onto your seat until the ride comes to a complete stop.
I also don't really understand why the Doctor is travelling to all those places yet, at this point it seems all rather pointless. In that respect I can compare it to the original show, which seemed rather absurd too even at that time, and I was a bit younger then. :D
You think that's a good summary Worf? As for Torchwood, that's not good! But somehow hilarious at the same time. :D
I'm assuming that the Torchwood thing was a mistake by the person who has to put the channel logo on the videos.

Um... is it true what this caricarture is implying, there have been 10 actors who played the Doctor? Even one after Christopher Eccleston (I guess he quit) the one who's playing it in the series I'm currently watching... that's even more then there have been James Bond actors... :D
According to the wikipedia entry it is... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who
Weird show indeed...

I read your explanations and while I don't quite get everything yet, it's ok for now. Funny how those 900 year-olds never look their age. ;)
I just saw the 4th episode, part one of a two-part story, "Aliens of London." For a change it was a very exciting episode and if I had to compare it to a movie, then it would be the first "Men in Black" film. I guess it's because it had all the ingredients of that action-comedy.
The farting jokes were getting a little repetitious after a while though, but I suppose the Brits have to poke fun at their own politicians whenever they get a chance too. The fat "M" character I thought was a very funny touch, whoever has seen the latest James Bond films (starting with Pierce Brosnan if memory serves) recognized a pretty obvious copy of the Judy Dench character at the side of the equally fat "acting prime minister." Most excellent. :D
The more I watch this show, the more I realize that it's an over-the-top caricature of mainstream science fiction, plain and simple. In that B5 and BSG take themselves way too seriously I suppose, but then there's enough space for every take on scifi.
Especially provolone.
Exterminate!
