Never even seen a whole episode... I don't know why I keep associating it with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... but it's one reason why I never watched it.
That's in the US though. Doctor Who was never well known in the US. In Britain however, it's as big as Star Trek ever was. From everything I've read and heard, I think you'd have a hard time finding a Brit who had never heard of Doctor Who.

Douglas Adams, author of Hitchhikers, wrote a few episodes for Doctor Who and was the script editor for a whole season back in the 70s. The show has occasionally made references to Hitchhikers. What's wrong with Hitchhiker's? It's only the funniest series of books ever written.
Dr Who is/was/will always be huge here.
Very odd indeed, I mean, I haven't seen enough of the show to dislike it. It never seemed very appealing to me.
I never cared for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I never understood why people thought it was great. I read the book (I only learned about the other books later on) and I was quite disappointed. I don't know if it's the funniest book ever written, but to me it's one of the most overhyped pieces of literature ever written.
Humor is an odd thing, we don't find the same jokes funny. The other day we were almost wetting ourselves at the office over a joke and I showed it to other friends later on and they barely raised an eyebrow. I suppose Doug Adams' jokes are funny to some people, unfortunately they aren't to me.
It's a bit like Monty Python or Mr. Bean skits. I like them all, but I guess I'm more of a slapstick humor kind of guy. I also know people who don't like them.
I haven't seen the recent movie about the Hitchhiker's Guide either.
"The meaning of life is 42." Is that supposed to be funny? And then that depressed robot who keeps complaining all the time... is that supposed to be funny? And then there's that guy with 3 arms... is that supposed to be funny?
Maybe it's just me. :D

So it's 42, same difference, does that make it funnier?

Alright, I guess the result is not the "haha" side of that particular joke, but the way they got the answer. Great... I just hope that's not Doug Adams' best work.

you should not associate the 2 at all.
I agree, other than the occasional Hitchhiker's reference in Doctor Who and Doug Adam's brief stint with the show, they really aren't related at all. Doctor Who is considered a drama and it definitely is, though it does have a good sense of humor. And David Tennant is amazing, can I just say oh my god that man is amazing!?
can we stop you?!? :p
But I know exactly what Rose felt, so I got personal experience on that one.
You're right, it was very ethnocentric of me to think that way, and I apologize. :)
I second that motion babe!
DOCTOR! spell out the bloody word you uncultured barbarians! Dr. Who is something kinda not the same :p
Yeah, isn't that how they spelled it in that travesty of a film that completely changed all the characters and made the Daleks all kinds of bright colors? That was SO not DOCTOR Who.

hehe, tis ok, happens to the best of us. :)
Prefered Ecclestone, but the modern Dr.Who is excellent

Someone who speaks sense! Ecclestone was the better of the 2 new ones
Worf
Thirded. I loved everything about him. His mannerisms felt more realistic and yet still fit with a character that was so exceedingly eccentric.
I think they were/are both excellent Doctors in their own way. Just like all the Doctors before them, they play their Doctor slightly different from all the others and both did a fantastic job. I would have liked Christopher to have stayed longer but I'm not sorry David joined either.
Different, yes. But some are better than others. Given those I have viewed, Christopher ranks highest. David is just someone I don't enjoy as much. His humor is pushed on the viewer over and over, which from my view gets a bit old fairly fast. This isn't to say I dislike him, but my preference is the far more confidently portrayed ninth doctor.
