Job application!

Lord RefaLord Refa Creepy, but in a good way
So, I am applying for this job as a finnish speaking customer service representative at Greenock, Scotland.. now I'm trying to figure out should I use a more professional and boring type of writing in my application or more ... me.

Minus the usual crazy stuff I put, but make it a more light hearted and memorable instead of the usual sheepish droning you might expect from a job application?

And customer service for computers and what not? Sure.. maybe not the most luxurious.. but would pay more than I used to get.. and heck.. I get to get the hell out from Finland for a year. Would miss them saunas and sheilas.. but the sheilas are in Australia and never met one in my life so can't hardly miss them. Maybe the thais and chinese girls more..

But then again..

Who says wont meet 'em there?

But anyways.. Which would make a better impression?

I'm also applying to similar profession in Ireland. Hell, according to some freaks I've met here I have a bit of an irish in my accent so why not cash in on it and go get a proper irish accent from Ireland!

Which has better girls?

SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

No reason for that second last comment if you consider this being the last one and if not then ignore the second last comment comment and consider it having been written as the last comment instead.

So am I (certifiably might I admit), but that doesnt really help with what kind of job application I should send.. To be honest, the IBM one at scotland offers more perks to start with.. so really wouldnt piss it off by being too friendly..

i would suggest the usual crap, sprinkled with a few little gems of Refa(TM) thrown in for good measure. too much and i think it'd just be dismissed as quickly as all the other boring usual ones

Another very important question concerning Scotland...

Do people like to drink alcoholic beverages in there?

Are there any public saunas that could use.. and I mean real finnish type saunas... :S

It's Scotland. Of course they drink. :) I wouldn't count on there being a huge number of saunas, though.

As for the application: while it can be very tempting to try and spice it up with the goal of it seeming more fun and friendly, HR people are far more likely to take that as a sign that you're not serious. Remember that "fun and friendly" is difficult to get across in text. Leave that stuff for the interview. The application should be straight to the point, clear, and concise.

yup. Done and done.. Just gave the basics and no fooling around.

Just keeping fingers crossed and hoping I would hear from them later on..

    what? are you nuts? .........nevermind

scotland is the home of whisky! not that i personallly drink it tho, cant stand the taste. i suspect that on any friday or saturday night, the percentage of the population that is under the influence is well into double figures :D

Dear god Refa is setting foot on UK soil!!!!  Luckly I'm a few miles away from Scotland. :p Should I send a warning to my fellow country persons warning of your arrival in Dublin Airport??? :p The customs guys there always look bored. So where in Ireland are you applying?

Yeah thats the funny thing about accents. Being Irish myself I've had people (mostly here in England of course) say I was from America, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zeland...

As for better girls Refa, you'll probably need a translator for alot of the scottish girls :D And Irish girls are grand. They'll be takin ya home to meet the extended family after a week ;)

I've just applied for a new job actually. Still within the university here but with the Student Services Dept. Six years in my current job... starting to get a bit stale and wage/career advancement is now non-existent. Need to escape before I become a lifer!

I have to say I do have a certain thing for the lasses from Southern Ireland, especially the readheaded ones :D
  • MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
readheaded? Yeah, never could stay away from the bookworms. :p
  • Well you mentioned the perks of the job.. and that you might only od it for a year..... so what I would do is weigh the pros and cons that come with it, and then look at the salary differential between the two jobs. After that take a look at the cost of living in each area and figure out where you're going to end up putting the most in your pocket for the same standard of living.

fine, redheads then! :p but readheaded implies that they're also intelligent, which is a must for me. my last gf did a degree in equine science (which is fair enough, i'm willing to accept that there's a fair bit of skill to looking after horses) but is now 4 or 5 years out from uni and works for matalan (a cheap clothes store we have here in the uk) and wants to make a career out of it. no ambition whatsoever, and no thought required. not what i want in a partner

Well.. They are very similar in all parts, except I might get some discount from IBM stuff from the one in Scotland.

The one in Ireland is at Cork.. Ever heard of that place?

Anyways.. Wish I got even one of them...
  • MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Yeah, redheads are my favoured kinda girl as well. ;)

Refa, Cork is a great city. Lived there for 2 years. Was a nice place. For me it was the people that did it, the local variations in the Cork accent are just fascinating. If you do move there, get a place on the south side, around Togher or Ballyphehane.
