Ok we don't know the full details of what really happened and I do wonder if the British Navy boats crossed any borders during their patrol, but still... not a clever thing to do by the Iranians!

This sounds just like Executive Orders...Strange that such fiction has a place in reality.

I look at them and I think something is wrong here. They must know that physically they cannot destroy us and the cost in lives will be enormous. If anyone is familiar with mongol/persian history. You know that they were the first Assassins. Commonly referred to as Hashishins back in the day by europe. A certain valley known as the Alamut valley was where their castle like stronghold was located. Allegedly as the story goes this king would feed his men hashish and order them to kill so and so to solidify his power over the Imam. The Mongols layed siege to that castle along with a slew of other strongholds in 1256 under Kublai Khan (If I remember correctly). Personally John, I think the persians are just potheads.
  • The Iranians seem to make a habit of capturing our soldiers, undoubtedly in an attempt to make themselves out to be less of a rubber lion militarily than Iraq was. (They probably waited for a routine patrol to do its rounds and confronted them with a flotilla of gunboats just to make sure.) I can imagine the lads were pretty sanguine about it - no point getting into a fight if the enemy's only going to take you prisoner as a political statement.

Barring any sort of border dispute I find it unlikely the british would accidentaly cross into iranian waters. With GPS and all the high tech navigation in their navy I find it unlikely they would get lost and cross the border unintentionally.

From what I heard, they were patrolling a waterway that is disputed in ownership between Iraq and Iran. Iran has previously captured British navy personal in those waters.

Stop patrolling disputed waters, that's what I say. :P

You could say the same to the Iranians. Besides, they're not the ones currently at war in the region- Oh wait...

But the Iranians aren't using GPS. So they may very well be in their waters, according to their "gear." :D

Can't rely on those GPS. Many people using them end up in rivers. Can only imagine where a ship might end up.

But like when they say "Iranian foreign minister rejects council's authority"
What happens then? Not allot really. I guess the security councel has to prove to me thay can do something.

Hmmm... well I see it from a different perspective.

Let me address the latter comment first. Cost in lives is irrelevant to a faith/gov who will give their own lives freely, and take yours if at all possible.

Regarding brining the USA to it's knees, not as hard as you would think. We've done it to ourselves really. A few well placed nukes at high altitude would shut down all that gadget freak bizness in a hurry.

It could take weeks before most people knew what the hell happened. Meanwhile, the sleepers could act with impunity, while the disarmed (by their own govenrment) Americans are subjected to guerilla warfare. Infiltration of the US borders has been occuring for decades.

No Cell phones, no cable TV, no Satellite TV, no GPS, no internet (to speak of) severly crippled land lines at best, power grid in disarray, most vehicles burnt out or comp chip trashed... the list goes on...

You can hide behind the comment that it all sounds too Hollywood, like an Ostrich with it's head in the Sand, or you can realize the truth that Hollywood gets it's material from the real world.

The more we rely on High Technology, the less of a foundation we have for traditional warfare. They use our technology against us.

And before you start ribbing me with comments about Red Dawn, watch the movie again and realize how some of the elements in that movie concerning the enemy might actually become true.

    Thats a pretty bleak outlook...

Iran is alot of talk, they have internal problems up the ass. It won't be till 2015 or later till they have a missile capable of leaving orbit. Till then its just talk. They strike tommorow they're fucked period the end. So are we but thats the end of the physical war then ya got the moral war. Times on our side right now. They do something stupid like launch a nuke thats global man...sleeping giant is an understatement we'd end up like banshees screaming from the depths of the 7th level of hell. Its a personal and historical lesson you punch someone give em a bloody nose they come back fighting next time a helluva lot stronger. I'm being realistic Jack. One nuke is not the end of the world its a strategic setback. But one thing is for sure it won't be America anymore...

What we have to do is export our culture before its too late otherwise no computer, no tactical weapon, no ABM is gonna save this country from itself or theirs. My plan is simple I'm gonna write this book, Im gonna get it published I'm gonna make a few mill. Money that I've earned in sheer pain and fly as many pornstars and bands as I can get on the plane and we're gonna rock out with our cocks out!

I have to do it cause politics doesn't allow that. The government is very two dimensional no one upstairs sees that though.

I think the current series Jericho shows what a couple of nukes can do the US.

Apparently the supposed terrorists arrested here in the UK the other week were going to target Canary Wharf tower in London which would have dealt a very serious blow to global internet communications and banking transactions, it they had succeeded. When you think about it modern society hangs on a very thin thread. Remove a few props and things get ugly very quickly.

I hope this doesn't escalate any further but Iran is playing a dangerous game. With a US carrier group in the gulf backed up by British ships they could call down hell on themselves all too quickly. And with Russian investment in Irans oil infastructure very high, any "invasion" will seriously piss the Russians off.

That's the type of paranoia that makes people vote republican!

I also don't think Iran is stupid, it's not as if we're actually going to do anything other than demanding the "immediate" release of our troops, while they get to display 15 UK sailors "confessing" to go knows what, a propaganda victory for them.

Won't happen, especially since the government are adamant that there was no wrongdoing on their part. Besides, if the Iranians really are treating them well, as they themselves claimed, the servicemen would have no reason engage in such theatricals.
