Episode 11 Spoiler: I'm thinking they've dropped the regeneration limit too, they know that eventually they'll run out but will want to continue the show.
The dream I mentioned a while back about anagrams being an important clue came true.
Mister Saxon = Master Six (there were 5 actors to play him before)

Spoiler: From when they first startet talking about utopia, i knew we wouldn' see it.
Also, my original thought about the Professor was, that his "headaches", and the drums, were connected to the future-kind, until he said what he heard was "the sound of drums"...
About the regenerations: another possible explanation could be that the use of the chameleon-thingie, since it rewrites the DNA, resets it. Which would explain why the master turned into a human in the first place. But that would be a kind of easy way to circumvent the limit.
Also, in the Fact File on the BBC page, they only list 6 different masters...
Edit: Spoiler: also, a big LOL @ the disclaimer on the Vote Saxon website: "This is not the real Vote Saxon website." Doesn't that imply that there's a "real" Vote Saxon website? :D

Biggles<font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
11 Spoiler: This is probably my favourite episode of the third series so far, it was just so much fun. Captain Jack holding onto the outside of the Tardis as it travelled through the time vortex, the end of the universe, The Doctor telling off Jack everytime he introduced himself, The Master! (ok, so as Biggles pointed out, we knew that was coming...although I didn't expect to see him until next week).
Having watched the episode again, I notice The Doctors hand looks aged after The Master regenerated, I wonder if he drew energy from it or something along those lines. Speaking of which, Martha's reaction to finding the hand was rather amusing.
Episode 11 Spoiler: I was having the biggest grin possible during most of the episode.
OMG so was I Spoiler: JACK!!!!! Too cool :D I love how they used the radiation room as an excuse for Jack and the Doctor to have time to talk and update Jack (and Martha) on everything he needed to know. Exactly what I was hoping would happen.
Spoiler: I also noticed this site has appeared ;)
Known about that one for a while. ;) There are a ton of Doctor Who websites out there. Wikipedia lists them all.
Spoiler: From when they first startet talking about utopia, i knew we wouldn' see it.
Also, my original thought about the Professor was, that his "headaches", and the drums, were connected to the future-kind, until he said what he heard was "the sound of drums"...
Spoiler: When I first heard the drums, the episode title was my first thought, especially when I remembered that one trailer where we see Saxon with the breathing mask on tapping the table in the exact same rhythm as the drums.
My only complaint about this episode was that full explanation of the future-kind situation was sacrificed to build up for the two parter. Not that the build-up was a bad thing, it was fun and happy. And yes, I was imploding and flipping out and squeeing with joy. There was just way too much fun to be had in this episode! :D
I'm also quite shocked that the Sun in fact had all their information correct. Everything they predicted in their article turned out to be true.
Spoiler: Let's hope that's the only accurate article in The Sun.
I didn't expect to see Utopia today but I have a feeling we'll see it at some point in the future, they built up enough mystery around it to suggest they'll be going back there. You know they like to hint at the plotline for the next series towards the end of the current one. I suspect we'll find Dalek Caan went there to hide and wants the humans for some evil plan.
You know what's funny? The Dalek that exterminated Jack originally is responsible for the return of the Master. If Jack hadn't died, he wouldn't have been left behind and the Tardis wouldn't have tried to escape from him by going to the end of the universe and The Master wouldn't have been found.
I liked this episode a lot. It didn't feel right at the start, but everything was comfortably explained and managed to fit together quite well. (I also greatly appreciate the return of Jack/Doctor chemistry)
My only complaint so far is that Davies shares his definition of subtle with JMS. The term I've used so many times now is "brick-to-the-face obvious."
Biggles<font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
I don't agree, JMS can be very subtle when he wants to be.
Davies on the other hand seems to have completely forgotten how to be after Bad Wolf.
Worf
RubberEagleWhat's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
I think the difference between how "subtle" Bad Wolf was handled, and how "unsubtle" the later season arcs, lies in the aproach:
It has been stated quite often, that the bad wolf thing was just as a little reward for people who watched every episode, and they didn't want to make a prominent arc, because they didn't know if the audience wanted such a thing.
I think that the reaction was mostly positive, and that's why we see more obvious ark-events now.
Also, you can be much more subtle with an arc when you have 22 episodes ;)
If you think about it, episodes 11, 12 and 13 are basically a three-parter, so there's only episodes 1-10 for subtelty...
Wasn't it more that Bad Wolf wasn't at all intentional? The additions were done by the effects group without knowledge/consent from the production side of things, and only after the implementation surfaced did the production staff incorporate it into the script.
Given the success of bad wolf, they decided to run with things and make "arc words" for each season. I honestly don't know if it's working now, as we're all expecting exactly that. Part of what made Bad Wolf so good was the surprise. The Saxon business could have been handled with much more care, making the build-up that much more interesting and mysterious.
Anyway, I disagree with JMS and subtle. The two words just do not go together. Ask Callista for details.
Don't be so fuckin' lazy, explain your own opinions. I have different ones.
Biggles<font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
jms is sometimes subtle. Witness, for example, the first season of Jeremiah, where Spoiler: there's a massive "Wow, that's so bloody awesome" moment in the season finale. It's just that most of the time he isn't. :)
Callista: I was more expecting a response about how much i've gone on about it over and over and over again ;)
Also, Having heard some of the season 1 music again, I do miss it more. The style is such a shift away from typical television soundtrack work that it perfectly matched the quirky nature of the show.
And I really need to see Jeremiah.

As far as i know, it was planned (allthough my knowledge comes only from official statements, and those don't need reflect the truth). The first in-dialogue mention of BW was in "The Unqiet Dead" (when Gwyneth does her psychic thingie on rose), wich was filmed in the second filming block. On screen, it was seen as the grafitty on the Tardis in Aliens of London / World War Three, which was filmed in Block One.
So far, my attempts to find my source have resulted in nothing. Also, Could you elaborate as to the nature of a "production block" and perhaps shove a production order my way? :p I've apparently lost my google hat and can't seem to produce anything.
RubberEagleWhat's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
Well, Doctor Who is filmed in blocks consisting of 2 or 3 episodes.
Episodes are usually blocked in a way that Episodes that use the same locations are in one block. For example in Season 1, the first block was Rose, Aliens of London and World War 3. All of those episodes had parts that were filmed in London. Also, a Block usually is directed by one Director.

Depending on who you ask, "Bad Wolf" was also said in the second episode, The End of the World. If you listen carefully when the camera pans by The Moxx of Balhoun talking to the Face of Boe he says either "this is the bad wolf scenario" or "this is the bad move scenario". Most people I've talked to think (or assume) the former, but nobody's sure.

I wasn't sure if it's in it, though you could argue that background dialogue can easily be altered after the fact. OMFG!
ep12 spoilers Spoiler: Other shows have episodes like this as season finales. So many high-points:
* The Doctor speaking about gallifrey
* We actually see gallifrey
* The master reveals that the timelords resurrected him for the time war
* The music when they start running.
* Jack telling the Doctor he rebuilt Torchwood in honor of him ...
* ... and the Torchwood theme playing in the background
* "It's like you fancy someone, and they don't even know you exist." and Jack saying to Martha "You too, huh?"
* The Master's coat beeing red inside
* Jack's timewarp/teleport-thingie beeing pain-inducing, and his comment "I've had worse nights"
* The Drums are actually part of the Doctor Who Theme.... (realized that during the teaser for next week's episode)
Though one thing that i find could have been done better is during the (telephone)conversation between the Master and the Doctor, when the Master says "But nit you, wich must mean..." and the Doctor answers "I was the only one who could end it.". The Doctor is saying he killed his race. There's a huge amount of potential in him aknowleding that, wich has gone entirely unused. Back in the first season, you always got this glimpses of darkness and remorse from Chris Ecclestone's Doctor, and i think this scene would have benefitted enormously from having something like that...
Interesting that the sphere's had the same voice as the gelth....
BTW: lists don't work in spoiler areas (well, they work, but they're visible):
Spoiler: you can't see this..

but you can see this
Biggles<font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
Spoiler: I think this particular incarnation of the Master is the most fun to watch, because he goes about his evil in such a perfectly condescending way.
Also, the music when they're running to the TARDIS on the airship reminds me a lot of the Laputa theme from Laputa: Castle in the Sky, which is a movie about a flying castle. :)
Episode 12 Spoiler: I just watched it, excellent episode. I found the Torchwood scene rather amusing. Too tired to post more, will do tomorrow.

RubberEagleWhat's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
Idle speculation about 13: btw, the more i think of it, the more i'm convinced we're going to see more of gallifrey in the next episode. Just think about all the work that has gone into designing and making the costumes, props, sets and CGI. That's a lot of work for just a few seconds screentime. And, as i mentioned a few weeks ago, they have been building gallifrey up all season, from little bits in dialogue to the Doctor's description of it to Martha in Gridlock. I'd be surprised if we're not gonna see any more of it.
Also, there's really just 3 possible outcomes of an episode titled "The last of the Timelords":
a) At the end, there's no Time Lord any more.
b) There's just one Time Lord left.
c) The Time Lords are (at least partially) restored.
I doubt it's a.
It might be b, with the the master beeing banished to the void or something similar, where he seems to not be able to escape, but it's still possible to bring him back for future episodes.
c) don't know. I don't think the Doctor beeing the last of his kind has been explored to it's full extent, but this could shake up the format a bit and present new story-opportunities (a reason why I'm convinced it's inevitable that somewhere down the road this will happen)

OMFG I can't believe I did not notice that! *facepalm*
I didn't watch the trailer and I'm avoiding anything related to it, I've just spoiled myself too much this season.
Series 4 thoughts: Spoiler: I watched Doctor Who Confidential, Russell T Davies mentioned that one of his plans for the show had been to bring back all the major icons and enemies of the old show. The Master was one he had been planning for awhile...he also mentioned that he wouldn't be the last. So, while we wait for episode 13, why not discuss potential enemies for the next series?
I'm thinking Utopia will be a big part of that and at the moment, I'm leaning towards Davros. I was never really a Davros fan, especially after they kept bringing him back in Dalek episodes and the Daleks just obeyed his commands and little else. However, the hints we were given about Utopia sound somewhat Davros like. Hopefully it won't be him though, I'd rather see Dalek Caan reviving the Daleks somehow. Either way, I'm sure we'll see more of Utopia.
As for the Timelords, I agree that at some point they will be revived too, either this weekend, maybe next year or sometime in the future. We'll have to wait and see...

About half of my list was compiled during a second viewing of the episode, that's also when i realized what the drums were playing (there's no music but the drums in the preview). Actually, there's not much spoilerish content in there, i think. It's mostly action shots, I don't think there's a line of dialogue in it. While I tend to not watch the previews for a second part of a two-parter, i just had to. Waiting a week for the conclusion after this ending is pure evil, sadistic torture,

(I think the first mention of Mr. Saxon was in "Love and Monsters" last season.
Also, I've heard that there might be some hints in "The Infinite Quest", though I haven't seen it yet (I'll probably check it out when it as one piece this weekend)

* "It's like you fancy someone, and they don't even know you exist." and Jack saying to Martha "You too, huh?"
* The Master's coat beeing red inside
* Jack's timewarp/teleport-thingie beeing pain-inducing, and his comment "I've had worse nights"
Spoiler: you can't see this..

but you can see this
Also, the music when they're running to the TARDIS on the airship reminds me a lot of the Laputa theme from Laputa: Castle in the Sky, which is a movie about a flying castle. :)

I don't think the Doctor beeing the last of his kind has been explored to it's full extent, but this could shake up the format a bit and present new story-opportunities (a reason why I'm convinced it's inevitable that somewhere down the road this will happen)
ep12 spoilers Spoiler:
* The Doctor speaking about gallifrey
* We actually see gallifrey
OMFG is right!!!! I about freaking died, I was on the edge of my seat, literally screaming "oh my freakin' god!!" in my head (not out loud because the Sanfam would have been angrified :P)

Spoiler: The cross-referencing was adorable and everywhere. Several Torchwood references that left me giggling, the jelly babies had me in stiches, so many little references. I need to watch it again to pick them all up.

Spoiler: yes, the gasmask-bit was so much fun. As was his interaction with the American President. (I'm kinda glad they didn't go for a Bush parody there)

Same here. When they started to fade to the hill with the orange sky, i couldn't believe they were going to show it, while at the same time beeing extremly exited at the prospect that they would.

S4 speculation:There's also the movie-poster "Civilization Zero", that's featured on the BBC Website for this episode, (I'm not sure if it was seen in the episode itself) and it was one of the movies in the video store in "Blink". (I think the first mention of Mr. Saxon was in "Love and Monsters" last season.
Also, I've heard that there might be some hints in "The Infinite Quest", though I haven't seen it yet (I'll probably check it out when it as one piece this weekend)
