Edit...
Biggles, how on EARTH did you get that domain? You rock dood!
Got a few more to add still. Been thinking of replacing my Canon Powershot A70 actually. I've noticed lately that the viewfinder goes a bit fuzzy sometimes and at least 1 photo from each shoot has some corrupt lines on them. Now it could be the new memory card I got. I have been looking at maybe getting a Canon Powershot S3 as a friend has one and its pretty nifty. But Canon have now brought out the S7 which looks even better and has got good reviews. I do wonder though if my A70 has a problem then buying another might not be a good idea.
I feel it is my duty to post up the link to the road trip here. It's also mirrored in the other thread. Feel free to browse away. One thing I noticed that the rest of you might is that exposure control seems to be going out on the camera. Some shots are very over-metered, but most are under. And green both washed out and overblown. The camera is showing its age.
Achtung Spitfeuer! I believe thats a Mk XII, with the Griffon powerplant? And a North American P-51D :) Beautiful machines!
Close it's a mark XIV, but yes it's a Griffon engine, as apposed to the Merlin...
thats a very young Leafy Sea Dragon, yet to grow into its fronds. They develop a much deeper and broader body with age. Good to see they've got one as far as Chicago. They've been tough to get breeding in captivity. The hope is to seed them all over the world and provide a gene bank if we lose too many in the wild.
Thanks :) I wanted to get more of the lightning, that night it was thundering and ligntening for about an hour with no rain, so i wanted to go out and do some long exposures with my Tripod, alas, i was working and by the time i got finished work, it was raining. (rain + digital camera = not good)
The next storm like that i'm going to try and head up out with my Tripod and see what i can get.
ShadowDancerWhen I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie."London, UK
Ranger Brian: ah yes of course. I forgot that they clipped the wings on the mk IX, though I thought the teardrop canopies we're introduced in later marks. Oh well :)
Bugger, my camera finally broke today, viewfinder has gone 100% corrupt. Judging from the symptoms its should be covered by Canon as they had a flaw with quite a few cameras, result in corrupted viewfinders (something to do with lose wiring on the board). Need to send it off to a Canon Service Centre for repair. Hopefully it will fall under the free repair promise.
Costa Mesa (CA) - With 6.5 FPS continuous shooting, a new auto focus feature and a 10.1 MP sensor, Canon's latest DSLR camera is ready to hit the market.
Canon's EOS 40D, the successor to the EOS 30D, takes significant advances over the previous model with new technology that Canon introduced earlier this year. For example, the 40D incorporates Canon's DIGIC III processor, which allows for nearly instantaneous camera boot-up and advanced color rendering.
Additionally, the 40D maintains image quality of up to ISO 1600 and a burst rate of 6.5 frames per second. According to Canon, the camera can handle up to 75 large JPEGs without pause.
The camera also uses a new auto focus system. The new platform has nine AF points, each of which can focus on horizontal and vertical planes. There's also a new button that enables auto focus immediately.
The 40D has a three inch LCD screen for image previewing, complete with grid overlays and a real-time histogram to simulate the exposure of the picture.
Canon also today launched the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3. Compatible with the 40D, the WFT-E3 lets users transfer pictures wirelessly to rmote FTP servers. Additionally, when connected to a GPS device, the image is tagged with its precise location.
The EOS 40D is available at a list price of around $1,300.
I wish we had more storms up in Rochester. That one was taken while down in Maryland, where some fairly interesting storms occurred on a more regular basis than they do up here. I also need to find a better vantage point that isn't 15 minutes away. And on top of that, I really need to finish making the sunroof-mounted camera dome so that I could take photos without risking my life by getting out into the middle of an empty parking lot in the middle of a thunderstorm.
Dax that's prolly the same storm that we got here,
Sanfam, i'm lucky here, as most of our big storms like that are offshore, so i get to stay on our isalnd and watch the strikes hit the offshore islands.

This is looking to be a pretty good option.
And Entil'zha, I respond to your lightning with a shot oddly similar in feeling!
