Be wary of pay pal. Their contract stipulates that they can sieze your money any time. They act like a bank, but they have none of the consumer protections of a bank. As a result, do not leave money in them. They are fine for temporary collecting of money that then quickly leaves their system, but not much else.

I repeat: do not use them as a storage spot for your money. You have no consumer protections on that money.

Yea, I use it all the time, but I never store my money, only send it through them..

Funny you should ask that question...

I was just looking over the features of my Merchant account, which I have yet to use.

Have used it as a buyer many times, I have one Seller point (which I believe was Biggles at some point when he sent me some NZ $) but haveyet to really use any of the features on a web site to use for payments etc.

I had the account for over 4.5years, and have yet to have any trouble, but then I don't fall for phishing emails and all either...

I only use paypal for sites that I trust less with my credit card details than paypal, which is not very often. I would never use them to store money nor connect my paypal account to my bank account. Overall, I've had no problems, but I hardly ever use it. Just the aforementioned sites, and sending money to Jack or Sanfam.

I'm a verified premiere member now (or whatever its called). Never had any problems. Hate their little fees though. I wish I'd have setup a business like Paypal, sheesh. :P

i use it for ebay, and a few other things (like donating to FO :)). never had any bad experiences with it, but as RC says, dont leave money in their account

I've used it for ebay and as mentioned, places I wouldn't want to give my credit card to or don't accept CC's. I've never had any real problem with them. I still don't trust them and I certainly would not store any money with them. Do the transaction and transfer all the money out right away. Their fees also keep creeping up.

My paypal account remains locked...They is still an open dispute regarding a Dreamcast I sold. I will not pay them because A) the guy got the dreamcast, B) It was never returned to me. They refuse to understand my perspective, and won't let up on the $50 dollars. For awhile they let me use the account then decided that time was up and changed my account privliges. They also deleted my ebay account while I was in London. Fuck all that.

Paypal is ebay's little bitch, money collector. Fortunately for me I did not keep any money in their coffers. Even if I had a few million laying around I would not surrender to that guy or paypals demands. FIGHT THE POWER!

I've used PayPal for about 5 years for buying from eBay and never had any trouble. Once transferred money to a friend in Germany without problems either. Although the transfer fees weren't exactly correct, which were told on their website according to my and my friends calculations. They actually charged a tad more. Although it was a very minor amount anyway.

Thanks heaps guy's :) . It's excellent to find out this stuff before I sign on.

So I shouldn't use it to store money, link it to my bank account and watch out for the fees.
It's good to see that some of you have had no problems, scary that some of you have . I would probably only use it for eBay for those who don't give you much of a choice.

Have any of you received fake PayPal emails? A mate just showed me some today.

    Again, a big thankyou :D

have, watch out for ebayers who want to sell you something outside ebay as well. Almost fell for that one!

yeah watch out for emails from 'paypal'. its the same with any phishing email, if they ask you for something then dont do it!

I've seen hundreds of fake paypal emails. Along with fake emails from a couple hundred banks, some of which I doubt even exist.

It's just the normal phishing scam that's been going on for years.

Yes I get the fake ebay and paypal emails quite frequently. You learn to spot them right away. Just never link of any email for any transaction, manually type in the paypal or ebay address and then do your transactions. And of course, watch out for people selling stuff outside of ebay, that one is always a scam.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people immediately think that an email is a valid factual document right off the bat...

I know some savy people who almost fell for the PayPal phish emails.

Almost all institutions make a claim that they will never email you asking for SSN, PIN, passwords, etc. Believe them, if you get something that seems to be from them, don't respond, just move it or delete it, and bring up your browser and go there seperately.

The special kick is the link text in these emails looks good, might even have company logos and all too, but you don't see what the hyperlink underneath is without investigating...

Don't even click on the link just for S&G, because it might bring you to a site that will upload a keylogger or virus to your machine.

    :)

Most of the ones I get are highly amusing, because they'll either have the link as an attached picture (not clickable), or not have a link at all.

I had no idea this was so common.
