ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Well, good luck on actually getting married :P

but still....ARE YOU SERIOUS? Hell, if I was with someone I probably wouldn't even consider marrying her until after like 5 years :P

Damn ME! GODDAMN ME ALL TO HELL! Oh wait... I DIDN'T blow it up. :D

Thank you, everyone for your support. We have already set a date: May 30, 2009. I know it's a long way off, but we decided on a long engagement. For those of you who have been involved in planning a wedding, you know how much time it really takes. Moreover, I wanted to wait until I was done with grad school, and she should have a job by then.

We've been together for almost two years now and I have to say, I am so lucky to have her.

@The Cabl3 Guy: I'm 22 but I'll be 24 by the wedding (going on 25).

What?! Don't you want an illegitimate husband brother-in-law? :csmile:
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Don't you mean "brother-in-law"? "Husband-in-law" suggests incestial bigamy. :p
• marriage is pointless anyway

Not if you consider the 'ink on paper' aspects.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Mmmm. Ink on paper. I think I shall write in pen for the next week. Oh the sexy black ink...

And if marriage was pointless why do you think the passing of measure 36 was such a big deal to me hmmmmm?
• 36. And it was important because of the equal rights issue. The passage of 36 (and other similar measures in other states) creates a social/political class system, where you have people who were 'born right' who have rights as opposed to the people who were 'not born right.' This is something that we should have solved in 1789, but we kept on having to fix it. While you can't get rid of the biggotry (millions are still racist and sexist in this country) you can create equality on paper.

The only use for marriage is the legal and economic aspect. Everything else is pointless. I never plan on getting a ceremonious wedding, and I will only have a civil marriage if 36 is overturned and EVERYBODY has the right to marry ANYONE else (oh noes peoplz start marrying their dogs LOLZERZ), but not until then.

Mmmmmmmm... caaaaaaake. :D

I'm glad to hear success stories when it comes to marriage. I know so many people in loveless relationships it's refreshing to know it can work.

Now onto the planning. We already have the church picked out and the date has been reserved. We also narrowed down the reception location to a few places. I really like the one; the price is good (no more than $41.00 a plate, even for filet mignon) and they make the wedding cake right there. Four hour open bar and champagne toast for each guest is included as well. The only "issue" is the reception location would be about 10 miles away from the church. But I don't think it's that big of a deal.
• FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
Wow, you guys are getting fancy, I don't we spent more than 14 or 15 a person on the reception.

As far as distance, 10 miles is no biggie, our reception was 25 miles from the church. We got lucky with the reception site. It was at the Memorial Union on the University of Missouri campus, which is this large Gothic structure on campus. The hall had huge fireplaces at both ends and large-cathedral like windows. The best part - since I'm an MU alum, it only cost $250 to rent for the evening...

[edit]Here's a pic of the building. It was built as a memorial to the alumni and students who died in "The Great War".

10 miles is not too far to travel... for more cake than is physically possible!

Congratulations, SG! We just celebrated our 16th on the 23rd.

Go for the distance!
