I'm sure you know of TNT... influence

What order did you watch them in? I think a lot of people are too hard on this show. I think it did better with what it had so far of its first season than B5 did with its first season.

The show started weakly imo. The cgi was dodgey and some of the stories were a bit iffy. Then there was the music. But before the end Crusade really started to get going and got really good.

TNT = spit

Racing The Night, The Path of Sorrows, Each Night I Dream of Home.. all very good episodes IMO.
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
I watched them in the original broadcast order..

But I skipped the first two, I have had those for almost a decade now..
• Crusade didn't exist a decade ago ;)

Speaking of which, on one of our old VHS tapes, I found a recording of a B5 episode with the TNT bug, meaning that we recorded it in early '98 when it was first on TNT. It was an interesting find.

I said almost.. :p

Since I dont have the vhs here, I couldnt check, and I was lazy..

Anyway, should I watch them over in another order?

The JMS order completely ignores uniform continuity in favor of character and story continuity (You probably noticed stuff like the crew using the plague shield several episodes before it was invented, or Gideon talking about something Galen said several episodes before he said it). It also sticks Warzone and Appearances and Other Deceits at the end, because he'd prefer to imagine Warzone doesn't exist (I'd just skip it), and Appearances directly refers to the uniform swap, which makes very little sense when you've been switching back and forth like you do in the JMS order.

Here's the list, with the number of the episode in the original airing order.
9 Racing the Night
11 The Needs of Earth
10 The Memory of War
2 The Long Road
12 Visitors from Down the Street
3 The Well of Forever
13 Each Night I Dream of Home
5 Patterns of the Soul
4 The Path of Sorrows
6 Ruling from the Tomb
7 The Rules of the Game
1 War Zone
8 Appearances and Other Deceits

I prefer the chronological order, even if it does start with War Zone:

War Zone
The Long Road
Appearances and Other Deceits
The Memory of War
The Needs of Earth
Racing the Night
Visitors From Down the Street
Each Night I Dream of Home
The Path of Sorrows
Patterns of the Soul
Ruling From the Tomb
The Well of Forever
The Rules of the Game

Wheee! So many orders to watch this show in!
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Except that isn't the chronological order.
• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
Yes it is. Says so in the B5 timeline in B5 Magazine. So there.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I would think the actuall script write / producer would trump that ;)

Depends if the writer's order is chronological or preferred order.
• HuntSmackerHuntSmacker Firstones Ambassador to Starcraftia
Stick Warzone at the beginning of JMS' list, and then your set.
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Problem is that would scare away most people from the series. Including me..
• David of MacDavid of Mac Elite Ranger Ca
I once read an episode order that added in "To The Ends Of The Earth" (with the "laundry malfunction," allowing the uniform order to go black-grey-black. The trouble is, even being able to stick some black-uniform episodes behind the grey uniform episodes still leaves an irreconcilable continuity error, and never mind stuff like how "Racing The Night" is a much, much stronger opening than "Warzone."

If it means I never have to see WZ again, I have no problem imagining it never happened.

But why leave the worst to last? :P
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Why watch it at all
• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
War Zone is so cool! I totally forgot everything that happened in A Call to Arms, so I'm so glad that I had everything told to me again! The rest of the show sux!

i didnt mind warzone at all to be honest. sure it was a rather weak episode, but then thats usually a given for a pilot/first episode. i hate watching the first B5 episode (the name escapes me) but i still love B5 :)
• WORFWORF The Burninator
Midnight on the Firing Line, which I think is better than Warzone.

Worf
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Except warzone was neither the pilot nor the first episode =P

what was it then? i havent watched it in a while so my recollections of which is which might be a bit off
• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
You know, I don't think they explained enough in War Zone. I think they should have spent some time explaining what Earth Force is, what space ships are, what Mars is, and why Galen is bald.

Midnight on the Firing Line is actually a good episode, not S1's best but definitally in the 'upper tier' if you know what I mean.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
TNT felt the real first episode didn't have enough action and boobs, so they made jms write a new episode.
•
action and boobs
where?
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Go watch james bond
• I already do :D

Wait....are you actually insulting James Bond with that remark?
• HuntSmackerHuntSmacker Firstones Ambassador to Starcraftia
The only bits of Warzone I like are the scenes on Mars. I always loved Mars related eppys in B5.
