The Dark Tower: The Drawing of Two

The Drawing of Two

It wasn't a new experience for him he had met the man in black before. On this night it was different. The cold, icy streets of town howled in the wind. No one was about, the moon was beginning to fade out. The early wings of sunshine began to fan in across the horizon. It would be the last time he would ever see the man in black.

"Hello old friend" said the man in black.

"Hello"

They sat and the young man pulled out his tobacco. He lit it quickly.

"Why do you haunt me today?"

"I am here to tell you your fate." said the man in black matter of factly.

"I care not about my ka only whats in front of me."

"Nevertheless, I am to tell you what is and what will be." said the man in black

"How do you know I will not leave?"

"This is the last time we will ever meet again." said the man in black

The young man stared into his cold eyes. He saw nothing, not a twitch of hatred or malice in either way. He was simply there to do a job and leave. The young man thought to himself. He could leave but if he left would he know less of himself then what he could? Though he wasn't concerned with his future, he knew the implications of his ka. A tainted ka could mean the worst for everyone.

"Show me my future."

The man in black began to draw two cards from his cloak. They had a touch of dark yellow, faded and cornered at the edges. the man in black placed the two cards in front of him and turned the left one over.

It featured a court jester with a bloodied silver dagger and a crown.

The man in black laughed out loud.
"The Fool"

"The fool is good natured and refuses to believe in the evil of human nature. He foregoes wisdom for experience. He expresses the weird and the strange. The dagger represents the danger of the fool. For the fool knows not what he does."

"What of the crown?"

"Good Im glad you asked...Thievery, the fool steals power from others. Not physically but through cunning manipulation. In his powerlessness he seeks more control over his ka."

"I do not care about my ka."

"You do or you would not have asked me to tell your future, fool."

The man in black flipped over the second card with his index finger. Featured on its face was a pendulum without weights. Behind it a woman of distinction she wore a tiara and a sceptor with a glowing red gem.

The man in black frowned.
"The Judge" said the man in black surprised.

"What does it mean?"

"You have alot of work ahead of you..." said the man in black gloomily

"Explain"

"The pendulum is the ka of this and the last world's. It is also yours...The woman is your mistress and guide. She governs some of your decisions in addition to your own." he paused then smiled
"I've always said you can always add but you can never take away" said the man in black attempting a mute joke.

"Who is she?"

"You know her already" said the man in black

A memory flashed to the forefront a room in a tower with many stairs and a young dark haired woman on a quilted bed.

"I know her"

"What does she want of me?"

"I cannot tell you that" said the man in black

"You've come all this way to leave me with only more questions?"

"I usually draw three cards, for you it is two. You must find the third card, I do not have it. Find it and you will find your answer."

"And that is all?"

"No there are a few last words but they only offer you more questions."

"Go 'head"

"Find the third card and you will become a slave."

"Then why would I search for the third card?"

"That is your decision"
He pointed to The Judge card

"And hers"

"My time is finished here I must go. You are stronger than you know."

He blinked and the man in black was gone. He pushed the memory out of his mind. It began to fade as he walked down the street to the smoke shop. But it gnawed at him and chewed and swallowed.

He dropped the last cinders of his spent tobacco hissing in the snow.
What is the third card?
