Eagle Seven-In the Beginning

Whitestar 15Whitestar 15 Earthforce Officer
After a brief stint of Star Trek watching I have come back to Babylon 5, still my favourite but anyway, I was watching In the Beginning again yesterday and I wondered (and this may seem like a really obvious question to ask) but is Eagle Seven (the single starfury sent out in the asteroid belt to track the minbari transport Ganya Ivanov (Erm is that the right spelling, I have no idea :S), but anyway I wasn't sure but it sounded like him...?Anyone know if it is?

Question two— How can a Hyperion Crusier, with a six fighter maximum, have seven ships in it's squadren?

As long as we're on the subject of that particular encounter...

I still have yet to see every ep of B5, but there've been a few where it's brought up that the Minbari are pissed off at Sheridan for acting without honor with the whole "fake distress call" thing, and that he's never known the Minbari to pull a sneak attack, etc.

However, that's EXACTLY what the Minbari did in the very battle that resulted in the destruction of the Black Star in the first place. The Minbari transport obviously feigned being disabled and drifted into the asteroid belt, in order to lure the Earth troops to a specific spot where a surprise attack would cut them to pieces.

That's just typical Minbari hypocracy for you.

They almost wipe out the entire human race, while we manage to destroy 1 ship, and it's "Sheridan the Star Killer", murdering humans etc..

That's simple. There is always at least 1 ship out on patrol.

Oh we managed to destroy a few, but the incident of the Black Star was the only Earth victory in the war

Also on that subject, I wouldn't call a distress call that was given when one half of the ship was trashed, and the other half was not attached "fake". It was a damned authentic distress call if you ask me. I would think it's pretty good numbers given that it took six Earth warcrusiers to bring down one Minbari ship.

But what I want to know is, where the heck were the three light Minbari crusiers Sheridan claimed to have taken out as well?

I don't remember Sheridan making that claim... when did he do that?

The thing is, they made the call with the specific intent to draw the Black Star in and use the booby-trapped nukes to try and take it out. Sure, a distress call would have been in order anyway, but I was always under the impression that the distress call was used as bait is what ticked the Minbari off.

Of course, the fact that the Black Star was coming in to finish off a ship that was calling for help doesn't exactly scream "honor", either...

The distress call wasn't really fake, the ship was in serious trouble, but blowing up the first ship to respond to a distress call isn't the way things are normally done

Of course Sheridan believed, correctly as it turned out, that the Mibari were comming to finish the job of destroying his ship, but he had no proof that they weren't responding to his distress call in an attempt to rescue his crew.
Wildly unlikely given the take no prisoners fighting that was occuring, but since the Black Star made no overtly hostile move before it was destroyed there is room for some Mibari to rewrite their history and make themselves feel better; claiming that Sheridan destroyed a ship on a rescue mission.

On a side note, when the Mimbari first confronted Sheridan with that accusation I assumed that they were complaining that he had sent a fake _Mibari_ distress call to lure in the Black Star...
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I'm pretty sure that just before they fired off the first nuke, they registered an energy spike from the Blackstar that indicated it was ready to fire.

Remember that just because it has only six fighter's doesn't mean there are only six pilots

ahem..

2 squadrons for duty rotation
in each squad say 8 pilot's, the reason for 8 is so that if a pilot become's injured or killed there will be someone to take their place if all ships are needed.
And last but not least Delta 7 could be Ivanova's brothers call sign, Like his overall placement in the squad Hierachy

Even though that Starfury was called Eagle 7 it doesn't mean that there were 7 Starfurys in that Hyperion's squadron.

Maybe the Hyperion was Eagle 1?
