I also used to fly IC-powered fixed-wing planes about 10 years ago. I'd very much like to get back into that as I enjoy fixed-wing more than rotary, and electric ones are so cheap and viable these days.

i used to fly fixed wing rc craft about 5 years ago or so. like biggles, id quite like to get them out again and fly them again. i also used to fly rockets as well, they were good fun! :)

Been there, done that. Electric-only models though, it's a good way to get introducted to all the pitfalls. It's one of those money sinks... and you'll soon discover that you spend more time repairing the darn things than flying them.

Another problem is the weather, you can't fly them when the weather isn't just right and so that doesn't leave many days in the year to actually get outside and fly. Ok, you can get indoor models but then you do need some kind of hangar or hall to fly in, which isn't as easy as it may sound.

It's indeed fun while it lasts. :D It's one of those guy-things you need to do, it's part of growing up I guess. Maybe it's more reasonable to try model trains instead? :D

i never went in for the electric ones, all mine were little 2-stroke motors. tho i did have a rather sweet 4-stroke that ran really well
  • Like twenty five years ago I use to own a R/C electric Boat. It was a neat Coast Guard Boat. It eventually got rusted up because I did not know how to take care of it. I always wanted a r/c hover craft.
