  • They did a survey somewhere(i dont have a link) where people that were home schooled score higher on national tests then their counterparts in public or private school. I do know that if your home schooled you need higher scores anyway but i still think the end result leaves something to be desired with the way they go about things with the teachers unions and school politics. But i guess it is all just a business anyway.

The fact of the matter is, most people can't afford to home school their kids. For the most part, only wealthier families can. Therefore, when you have more affluent people who can pay for an individualized education, it is only logical that the end result will be better in most cases. On the other hand, you have overflowing classrooms, many with kids who have behavior problems and teachers who are unable to discipline them for fear of reprisals. To make matters worse, now children with learning and mental disabilities--the ones who need individualized education the most--are put into classes with everybody else.
  • Good summary Space Ghost.
I'll add, Home Schooling is growing rapidly, and mainly in middle class homes, obviously it requires one parent to be at home teaching the kids, so that does knock out some of the population right there.
One major thing though, is that many parents do not feel they are capable of teaching their children Math, Science, etc...which is rarely a problem. Just follow the text book, and if there is a question you can't answer solve it together through research!

(This from a person that was homeschooled from 1st grade through high school graduation, and couldn't be happier)

There is a lot in science, such as science itself, which can't be taught through a textbook because most textbooks don't cover it.

Thank you guys. I will try to send my comments from now on. Believe or not I have discovered Babylon 5 universe just a few months ago. I got all B5 seasons and movies and watched them. Just an increadeble universe really. With Farscape ( I am also a Farscape fan ) Babylon 5 set such high standarts for me in sci/fi , I don't even consider other sci-fi franchises anymore. Now looking for B5 novels but they are hard to find unfortunetely.

As for the video , well getting a proper education is a problem in everywhere I am afraid. Even in some developed and industrilised nations , goverments consider important social issues like education , health care as unimportant matters or to be solved later. And I know some classrooms which had more than 50 students.

Sadly they are hard to find, however, they crop up on Ebay sometimes. I recommend the centauri trilogy and the sci-corps trilogy.
