Whatever happened to the techomages?

Along with watching In The Begining recently, I also re-read the technomage series. Since we learn at the end of the series that the shadows grow the tech the mages use, does their order just eventually die off?

If that's true it seems like an awfully anti-climactic ending for a group as... dramatic as the mages. Was this maybe planned to be part of Crusade?

Unfortunately we may never know seeing as Crusade died of crib death

They may not have necessarily died off. If I remember correctly, there are references to new (young) technomages in the Centauri trilogy, which happens about 20 years after the events of Technomage trilogy.

Don't forget a lot of shadow tech was left over after the war. Its quite possible that the Technomages used shadow tech to grow the technomage tech, but when the shadows left, they didn't take growing stuff with them. Thus the technomages wouldn't have died out.

As I recall, the Technomages hid during the Shadow war (from Crusade). If they hid, they likely had all the tools with them to continue to build and repair their technology. If so, then when the Shadows left the galaxy, that shadow tech would have been left.

I'd say Technomages are more then likely to remain arround for a long time to come...

If we can use the Technomage trilogy as our source of information, the tools that were used to make the tech for mages was destroyed with Z'Ha'Dum.

At the end of third book of the Technomage trilogy, there was no known way of build more tech for mages.

But since either the Technomage or the Centauri trilogy aren't truly canon we don't know what's the real truth. But I am positive that the Technomages found a new way to produce tech for them. Most likely that would have happened during the Crusade, as one of the main charactes is a technomage, and also the most powerful one if we can trust the Technomage trilogy. Edit: I recommend you all to read both the Centauri and Technomage trilogies. And do not forget to read "To Dream in the City of Sorrows" as well, that's the one approved 100% by JMS himself.

Books 7, 9, and the three trilogies are all considered canon.

From the books and crusade that the technomages are still in their hiding place and are sending out mages to investigate anyone playing around with shadow tech and keeping an eye on former partners/minions of the shadows. The centauri trilogies tends to point to the fact that they may have found a way to replicate shadow tech.

  • arrg, a spoiler warning at the very beginning of this tread would have been nice is all I have to say.

All very well and true but I do have a rather major nitpick with all that.

As we know, during Season 1 the Technomages went away to prevent their technology from falling into the Shadow's + allies) hands during the war. Now if they didn't want the Shadows to get their tech then WHY the HECK would the chrysalis chambers (implanting the tech in their bodies) and the manufacturing facalities be on Z'Ha'Dum???

I only ask cos if they didn't want the Shadows to get their tech, who have it on Z'ha'dum. It is kinda stupid.
  • WORFWORF The Burninator
I thought they left because they didn't want to be used or killed by the Shadows.

    Also, I wouldn't mind being a Technomage

They escaped the coming Shadow War. The tech that the mages are using, are pure Shadow tech.

The tech was made in Z'Ha'Dum, Drakh lackeys transported the tech for mages. The mages did not know that the Shadows were behind of their tech. Galen found it out and stopped production of the tech.

Technomages were originally meant to be Soldiers of Chaos, bringing destruction everywhere. The tech was both blessing and curse for the mages, as the tech was driving them into hostilities. Galen was the first who found a way to free himself of Shadow programming.

  • Sorry 'bout not putting a spoilers at the top, I just assumed that if anyone hasn't read the books by now they weren't planning on doing it anytime soon.

Thanks for the answers, I had forgotten about Finian and Gwynn from Legions of Fire.
