Maybe it doesn't like DVD-R's, maybe you need DVD+R's.

Well, so much for Mac's... :D
• tried both...fuck.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
As far as I know, it should accept both formats.

I don't know exactly what you are trying to do but let me just say that regular Mac software is not designed to copy movie DVD's.

I'm not a mac user, so I'll let others jump in if they can help.
• Thing is it worked fine before I have burned DVDs before.
• Rogue TraderRogue Trader Somebody stop him...
try a different brand. I have gotten fucked by bad batches before.
• two bad batches ? I tried both my friend's Hyundai DVD+Rs and my Philip's DVD-Rs. Man I don't want to have to start putting money into it. I got it because of the lack of need for maintaince. Although I wonder if I bring it into the apple shop and find it defective will replace it with a brand new intel duo.
• I've been had! Damn it damn it damn it! I bought this thing on ebay almost a year and a half ago check the system profiler and its CD-RW only?! I payed for a superdrive! I swear I burned some dvds on here. Time for a reinstall maybe?

Another ebay fuck up. I need to write something seriously hateful about ebay now.
• ahh wait it needs to be DVD+-RW or so its says when I looked up the Apple serial. Is this like apple specific DVD? Funny I have 50 blank dvds here and can't use one of them.

Traditionally Apple sat on the - side of the DVD formats while M$ sat on the + side. They've supported both +- for some time now. I reckon its the disk. Mac drives are very fussy when it comes to none brand dvds. Stick with Verbatium or Memorex. Never had problems with them, or Sony discs.

But now reading your post on the drive source, what make is it? Panasonic? What version of OS X are you running? Could be a driver issue.

Check out www.xlr8yourmac.com great site for general hardware advice. You can always email the guy there, Mike's his name. Very helpful.
• Thanks for said advice I am sure the last DVDs I used were Verbatim.

The drive is a MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8123

however I looked into my serial on the apple site and it is a superdrive im pretty sure.

Also thanks for the site!

No problem dude. Hmm that is standard issue in most macs these days. Are you using Toast or the built in burning support?
• Toast but I believe both are active. How do I check?
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
When you load Toast go to the menu on the top left that says "Toast Titanium". Click on that and drop down to "About Toast". Click that and it will load a box saying what version number it is. Mine is v6.03.
• mine is 6.05 actually.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Just so you don't go on incorrectly assuming things here, the drive you posted is a CD-RW/DVD Combo drive. It can read/write CDs and Read DVDs. Perhpas a mixup in system building?

The two options available to the mac mini are...

24x Combo Drive (CD-RW/DVD)
8x Superdrive (CD-RW/DVD+-RW/DVD+R DL)
• Thats the new mac minis I believe your refering to. Mine is an older G4 I got it when they first came out.

If that is true than the guy lied on his ebay post unfornately it is too late to leave any feedback or file a dispute. I think while I'm buying DVDs I'll stop in the apple shop first see what they say.

More likely the guy selling it didn't know.
• And he sold it practically the day of release hmmm. Sounds suspect no?

Cableguy:

What speed processor?
What size hard drive?

It should have 1.42GHz processor and 80GB HD if it's the superdrive model. The only difference between the Superdrive model and the 1.42GHz model is the superdrive. Note that early Mac Mini G4's didn't have superdrives as an default option - you had to buy it as an add-on.

See: http://support.apple.com/specs/macmini/Mac_mini_orig.html
• Thats the upped model they had i bought the 1.26 ghz version. I still saved money either way because I payed less than $575 for 512 ram which at the time was not standard. The upped model was near $700 out my price range at the time. I wanted a cheap cheap editing station for F Cut and I pretty much got what I wanted. By the way my drive is 37 gigs. I am nearly maxed out things need to be deleted. lol

I'm still heading down there today.
• So im in the Apple shop waiting for my Mac to come back. They say my appointment is for 1:20 lets hope its just me & i didn't get duped.
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
Good luck :)
• well i got duped :D
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
Bummer!
• Yah infact they accused me of stealing cause it was registered to the guy. Im to depressed to really care enough to defend myself.

You can always get a new drive for it? DVD burners are dirt cheap these days. Obviously you have to jimmy the mac mini open but there are plenty of guides online to show you how its done.
