On the topic of new computers...

SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I'm in the market for older computer parts. Specifically, motherboards, processors, memory. By older, I'm thinking...Athlon XP ~2000+. Maybe higher, maybe lower. Now, a processor I can get fairly cheap from a number of sources, but the real trouble has been the motherboard. eBay is loaded with craptacular product listings, and craigslist is hit-or-miss. So I'm starting the search for gear!

Anybody here have anything in this realm they'd be willing to sell, perhaps even give away?

This computer is about the age you're looking for, but I'm not selling it. It's getting added to my legacy collection.
  • I'm getting ready to replace my AthlonXP 2800+....(Ye old 32bit proc)

and the mobo it's on...can't remember what it is. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

We have legacy coming out our ears here at times. I'm sure I can arrange a 486 or an uber fast P1/P2 for shipping outside the UK :D We recently decomissioned a dual P3 which a buddy of mine got. Ideal for a home server.

In my junk pile I've got a bunch of Athlon 1400's (about 4 or 5) that came off systems with failed motherboards. Never fixed them for that very reason, motherboards for them were so hard to come by I just gave up. Was thinking of turning them into key chains. I've also got left a nice Abit AMD 751 chipset board, and an Epox Via something or other for them which I'm quite certain are still in functional condition.

I have a Soyo Dragon KT880 MB. The onboard sound was acting screwy on it, so I disabled it and bought a simple sound blaster card which ill give you if you take the motherboard. Its cluttering up my closet at this point.

I also have used lian li anodized aluminum case. Its rough around the edges, but a decent case.

I recently upgraded my home server from a P200MMX to an Athlon 1800 solely because it was too slow to compile GCC 4. :)

Ah MMX... that takes me back. I remember well all the hype about the revolution MMX and how it was going to bring wonderful things to us peon desktop users :)

Oldest computer kit I have is a BBC Micro and an Apple II Europlus, with original paddles so I can play pong on it :p

The soyo seems like an interesting option, SpiritOne...

The lian-li, however, does not. I suspect it is a bit above budget for what I seek.

Well, if Sanfam turns his nose up on it I'd be interested in talking to you about it...

    ;)

I just bought a new video card so my old one (AOpen FX5900XT 128MB) might be up for grabs (that is, if the new one works out). We'll see...

Dear god, my computer is this ancient? I have exactly what you specified: an XP 2000+ on an Asus A7V266-E with 2x256 PC1600, a GeForce 4 Ti4200, and a 160 gig Western Digital drive (by far the newest part). I'm replacing it with a laptop in a couple of weeks, and I was planning on selling the whole box at school along with a set of decent 4.1 Altec Lansing speakers, but I guess if you're interested and willing to pay me a fair price (say, around $1500), you're welcome to it.

    Hmmmm...

$15 - XP2000+ (You can pick up a 2800+ for $30 brand new on Newegg)
    $100 - mobo (probably high)
$45 - 2x256MB (newegg price for slightly faster version of same memory)
$30 - GeForce 4 Ti4200 (Newegg has the GeForce 5 series at that price)
$60 - Altec Lansing speakers - I know what I paid for my 5.1 set from them
    $60 - 160GB Hard Drive (Newegg price)
    $60 - Power Supply
    $80 - Case (I assume it's a nice case?)

    Total: $450

You might get $50-100 more if it has an optical drive.

That makes you about $1000 overpriced for buying the components brand new, Arethusa.

to be honest, my wife wants the case out of the house. its cluttering up an area she could be otherwise using to put scrapbooking stuff.

If you want the motherboard, case and sound card, Ill just send it to you. Give me like 25 bucks for shipping, and its yours.
