Recruitment post

Legions of Perkele is a ruling alliance in a free browser based space strategy game called Alliance Wars.
We have fought under several names and with several different people, but we've always been able to gain top rankings for our alliance and players.

Now a new round is starting, and we need fresh blood. During last round we made enemies more than we can count, and this is why we need you.

We want you to join our forces, and fight with us against our enemies.

This is what we are offering:
- Guidance from the best.
- State of the art tools in AW universe.
- Great times, especially during joint attacks or defenses.
- International environment, we have players from United States, England, Netherlands, Sweden and Finland. Main communication language is English.
- Good friends, if you can tolerate the level of humor. I've been in this community for 4 years.

Though we have players from several countries, we are not a big community. We are talking about active group of 10 to 15 players.

And what do we want from you?
- IRC activity, all the important alliance communication is done via IRC. More you can idle, the better. It is ok, if you cant be with us all the time, but please stop by once in a while.
- Game activity, to be successful player you will need to log in at least twice in a day. You can do everything needed in less than 5 minutes per log in.
- Ability to type with your keyboard and ask questions.
- Use of Firefox web browser

We are aware that possible new recruits don't have any knowledge about Alliance Wars, but we are giving you the proper training to be a successful player. The game itself is very straight forward, it doesn't have any complex features and the basics are easy to learn. Its all about fun, friends, activity, intelligence and tactics. Some of us consider this game to be just a excuse to have chat with friends.

If you liked Planetarion, you will like Alliance Wars. Even if you haven't heard about it, as long as you are interested you are welcome to join.
And if you don't like the game, we wont stop you leaving. (But we will try...)

The game has very strict rules, for example no offensive language and no cheating. If we think you will cause us trouble, we will kick you out and report to game admins. Troublemakers just doesn't affect the individuals, they affect the whole alliance. That is why we need to carry the responsibility of whether to choose you, or not.

If you are interested, reply to this thread. Why not do more stuff together instead just having good time in the forums?

And even if you don't want to join us, try the Alliance Wars by yourself. Maybe we can see a alliance of Firstones some day.

Warning: Alliance Wars might lead to dangerous addiction if played properly, the symptoms are:
- Idling 24/7 in our IRC channel
- Swearing in Finnish
- Waking up 3am to launch a fleets towards enemies, or check the status of ongoing battle
- Having alarm clock on every 5 minutes before the hour changes
- Wearing a helmet when launching fleets

I'm not sure what kind of game this is. The absence of screenshots (at least I couldn't find any ingame captures) on the main page doesn't bode well.

Furthermore, I have never heard of either Alliance War and Planetarion. A game that goes ignored by the gaming press means it's not even a niche game.

A lack of tangible information on the homepage does not help anyone who would be curious enough to even care.

If this is a 3D space game, they sure try to hide that fact. :D

You never heard of Planetarion? It was in the news a lot 5 years ago..
  • :)

It is completely 2D strategy game, and its played via web browser.

    To quote myself:
It's a browser based, and reminds somewhat Planetarion... Only this one is free and still in beta -stage. Fear not, the game works but some of the races and features havent been coded fully yet.

The idea of the game is to gather a strong and active team and form a alliance. Then people start building technologies to produce mines, ships and troops.

You'll need a certain race to form a alliance, you'll also need a certain race to have access to advanced scans (To see enemy fleet movements, alliance, etc), not to mention only certain races have excellent quality troops and low attack ETA's... Every race has its good and bad sides, but in the same alliance the bad sides are compensated with active playing and planning. Alliance can not win without good scans, or attacking.

The key to win are the mines:
Mines bring you income, and when the limit of buying mines becomes too expensive, you'll need to start attacking.

More mines you have, more ships&troops you can produce. How ever, if your alliance/planet isnt strong enough, some other player/alliance may come and steal the precious mines you have. For example, if you attack your target, nothing prevents his alliance counter attacking you or your alliance with large scale.

Like I was attacking one good target with mines, in the end I saw myself being attacked by several people... But because of active alliance, the battle on my planet was defended well and enemy was destroyed. This also enabled my alliance to launch counter attacks to destroyed attackers planet to get his mines in to our custody.

The game is tick based, as most of the browser based games. Fleet movement happens at :00 and battles are fought at :30. Travel times of attacking and defending vary from 13 hours to 4 hours, depending how far you are in the universe and what kind of travel technologies you have. I've been awake too many times at 2-4am, just to send defence to alliance mate or check how is the battle going..

Also a screenshot from main screen (It doesnt look like this yet, but it will be implemented soon when the development team has time.)

That must have been some news because I do follow the gaming press quite closely and this wasn't even a blip on my radar.

I'm sorry to say, but that screenshot above isn't really helping.

I liked Master of Orion II and Alpha Centauri a lot and Space Rangers I & II were also quite nice games but it seems to me Alliance Wars isn't anything like that at all.

Anyway, I don't use IRC anymore and I gave MMOG's a try and never really liked the experience. I don't play as much as I used to, I just don't have that much time and when I do, it's RPG's or FPS games sprinkled in with flight simulations.

I'm trying to like Railroad Tycoon 3 right now and it's not really clicking between us. I'm having better results playing Far Cry right now. :D Operation Flashpoint is the next one on my backlog, I'm a rabid snailgamer, so I don't mind playing older games, as long as they are fun to play.

Eve Online is another of those time sinks that I wouldn't even touch with a 10 foot pole.

Thanks for sharing though, but I don't think I'm going to bite. :o

Planetarion was quite "big" when I was in high school 5 years ago. I don't think it was in the gaming press much because, well, browser games usually arn't covered but spread by word of mouth. Our IRC room is a good place to hear about these things ;)

You haven't played any browser games have you?

I would check it out, but i'm currently having the life sucked out of me by Warcraft.

Just the mere thought of it sends cold shivers down my back.

Except for a few macromedia flash games, no I haven't dared to play any browser based games.
