I remember hearing about this show a ways back. Its about a small Kansas town that is trying to survive after terrorist nuke several US cities.
I never did learn when it was on, or if it was doing well. I just recently found it in the downloadable shows on the 360. So I started watching them. Turns out, its a real good show. Thankfully, now that Im 10 episodes in and vested in the outcome, I find out its returning in Feb.
There are some elements that I find boring or down right annoying. The popular teen girls throwing parties and picking on the poor kid who works at the grocery store. I could care less about them. But a good majority of the show is spent on Jake Green (Skeet Ulrich) and a mysterious man named Hawkins. They deal with issues from dwindling supplies to crime and punishment and protection from private armies.
Its got enough drama and suspense as well as intrigue. Some of the actors on it are doing a good job too.
Like I said though, its interesting, a little dark at times, and downright frightening. Galactica can show me a whole planet ravaged by nuclear warfare, but its not my planet. They start talking about Denver, and some of the stuff in Jericho it hits a little closer to home. In the pilot the mayor is talking to his wife about the attack and she says that she remembers the duck & cover drills from school. She knows its silly, but wondered if the people in the attack had enough time to get under their desks. A little creepy.
For those who don't know, in the 1960's during the Cuban Missile Crisis the US government came up with a plan to "try" to make people feel better about the possibility of being hit with a nuclear bomb. It was called Duck & Cover, and it was a cartoon that featured a turtle who ducked into his shell when a nuke hit. They practiced drills in school where kids would hide under their desks if they saw a mushroom cloud. There was another movie that showed a family at an outdoor picnic who "duck & cover" under their picnic ground cloth. Now obviously this would do nothing to protect anyone, but it did give the public a little peace of mind. Suffice to say is, it kept the average public from going berserk and losing all form of rational thought from the fear of being totally annihilated from the nuclear bombs a few hundred miles away.

Hee yeah Duck and Cover, they made great fun of that in an episode of South Park when the local volcano blew its top. Everyone had to watch a government made video telling em to "Duck and Cover" and the lava would just roll over them. Hilarious.
As for duck and cover, don't forget, there was also a song that went along with the commercials.. heh
Totally forgot about the South Park episode, but yeah, it was just as asinine as they describe it.
Finally and I will spoiler tag this for those who have watched the show Spoiler: During the rain, Hawkins goes to a storgae building where he has guns and gets a large 50 gallon drum. Do you think its a bomb?
I like the show very much, though there are few very disturbing things.. Especially why there has to be a damn romance everywhere... Ok, its not bad if it has some value, or its done correctly...
But when you take the loser from the school who falls in love with the girl he cant get...
VERY interesting indeed... Just stick with the nukes and real story behind all of this, alright?
This show needs more 'Lost' (Season 1) aspect, or more testosterone to be way better.
Jericho has every element covered what a good show needs, interesting characters and especially great story to tell. Hopefully they concentrate more on the interesting stuff in future episodes, because if I find myself watching poorly made love story with nukes at the background, im out.
