I don't know if you're talking about the XM8 or the XM29, but both are dead.
And I refuse to listen to reason. The SCAR-H is controllable on automatic fire in CQB because I says so.
The grenade launcher portion of the XM29 is being adapted to a standalone XM25. Whether that will actually go anywhere or not is unknown, but I wouldn't count on it. The US military's quite happy with the M16 for.. some reason.
First off, even with a long barrel and bi-pod the SCAR-H wouldnt be controllable, the M14E1 went that route and STILL wasnt controllable, for recoil forces like were talking about the only real thing to compensate is mass, its one of those "you canna change the laws of physics" things
XM-25, is still kinda up in the air I doubt it will be fielded anytime soon.
As for the continuing role of the M16, its inertia, its already in the inventory, parts are everywhere, everybody including the armorers is trained on it
US military probably wont get rid of the thing until there is a caliber change, and then the US will adopt a rotating bolt, gas op rod action like everybody else in the world.
The M14's a bad comparison. Everything I've ever heard from people who've fired them indicates it has one of the lest forgiving, highest impulse actions you can get. The FAL OSW is much closer. How often that gets used in automatic, I don't know.

I dont know, while my semi auto M14 is more punishing then say my garand, its not terribly worse then an FAL, pound for pound, the FAL has less rise due to the straight line of stock to barrel, but the narrow buttpad on the FAL means in my experience that it can be more accutely felt, especially after your 200th or so round.
As for full auto fire, it was still atrocious, which makes me wonder what DSA has been smoking with its OSW, Rember before they were replaced most of the British and Aussie L1-A1's were semi auto (except for the heavy barrel L2's which the troops despised compared to their old Brens) and most users of the metric FALs had also moved away from using them for full auto fire, thus the catching on of the FN-MAG during the 70's 80's and hell, today, where damn near everybody uses it.
Controllable autofire is really bad for suppressive fire. Thats why the Swedish army installed a loose muzzle on the newest machinegun. Covers a lot of ground..
And I know the swordsmith who made the original for that.. :)
Unfortunately, the swords you buy from Albion are pressed, but nonetheless, great swords..
This is also, though not historical, a reallly finely made sword

oh well... go olde skool, attach weight, maybe even a water/sand fillable base for serious bunker/hunker work.

I'd be quite happy with a SCAR-L. The grenade launcher is the hottest thing ever.
and cant debate the GL thing.
